Language Constructs

@ K. 2001 04 13

So many “things” and their attributes prove to be nothing but artifacts of language. “To Infinity,” for example.

1, 2, 3 … and so on to infinity. We may think of infinity as a number, but if so, it is not a number as 1 or 2 or 3 are numbers. e and pi are numbers. They too are not like 1 or 2. Neither are they like infinity.

You can go to high school. You can go to Macy’s, to the kitchen … But even a number series doesn’t “go to infinity” as though infinity where a place. A place can be arrived at; infinity can’t.

Oh, we all know that. But do we? Not while we’re under the thrall of a natural language.

Language is like kleptocracy. It can’t imagine not being in charge.

This subject is of the greatest importance to Macroinformation. (With my domain of that name down (censored, a domino fallen under my AgainstHierarchy.org) see my blog of that name.)

About pk

I am a writer. I am a deschooler. With Ivan Illich dead, I am the deschooler. Deschooling opposes coercion, particularly state coercion. (Understand: I'm the (mostly) unpublished writer, the sabotaged writer ... the jailed writer, the censored writer.)
