Minding Other Peoples’ Business
Expelled Nazis paid millions in Social Security
http://news.yahoo.com/expelled-nazis-paid-millions-social-security-010341906.html
2014 10 24 Some Nazis escaped WWII, came to the USA, took jobs, opened businesses, paid into Social Security. Now they’re old, they receive Social Security. Apparently the US also offered them continuing Social Security if they agreed to be deported. So: aren’t they entitled to it? Maybe they should be shot as Nazis; but if they’re not shot, aren’t they entitled to whatever they’re legally entitled to?
If the Nazi has an annuity from Met Life, is that cheating? Is that our business? Do we have a right to burrow into the accounts of a corporation and dictate whom the company must defraud?
Of course what rankles is that Social Security isn’t an honest enterprise, never was: pays out more than it takes in … Fine: but the moral is that kleptocracies should keep their hands to themselves, not offer absurd contracts like Social Security. How is our stupid government the Nazis’ fault? Their stupid government was their fault, yes: but how ours?

2014 10 17 “You can no longer distinguish what is man-made from what is natural.”
http://news.yahoo.com/yet-scientists-prepare-change-epoch-165845731.html

2014 10 15 A ten year old kid choked grandma with a name, beat on her, she died. The police charge him: “as an adult”.
First of all, what right does the law have to separate citizens into classes? Male and female, maybe; but not black and white, and not young and old. Or: define the difference and then follow the definition! What’s this business of changing your mind every other minute? depending on whether or not you like the results. Subjective law enforcement. Boo.

20014 10 11 Historic Significance

One man’s treasure is another man’s trash

http://news.yahoo.com/drought-exposes-once-submerged-oregon-town-archaeological-dig-215737285.html
I publish the graphic, bring out at $100 retail, I offer it prepub: that is, I declare the retail price to be $100, therefore I sell it, keystoned for $50 wholesale, buy it cash up front and I’ll sell it for $40, other distributors can buy it at 50/50: that is, $25 publishers price: cash up front I’ll sell it to a competitor for 50/50/20: $20 each, thank you. That’s how my art publishing business worked, country wide, world wide: most places: enough to make generalizations about.
OK, after a month or so the pre-pub discount disappears. $100 retail, I wholesale it for $50: for a month or two. If I’m actually selling more than a couple of them, I say now the price is $200 retail. I’m the publisher; the price is whatever I say it is. If no one buys it, I said the wrong price. If it sells out, then I sold them too fast, too cheap, never mind, publish something else.
One day on Madison Avenue I had a LeRoy Neieman serigraph on an easel by the entrace: $1,200 retail: framed in this particular frame, $1,300: $100 for the frame. I didn’t set the price, Circle Gallery set the price, that was 1973 or ’74. Hey, there’s LeRoy Neiman on the street, hailing a cab, he’s got something rolled under his arm, cabbie stops, LeRoy says Take me to XYZ, I’ll give you this serigraph, worth $1,200. It’s that serigraph, trotters racing. Cabbie speeds off, without taking LeRoy. The cabbie turned down a multiple original pencil signed limited edition serigraph valued at $1,200 according to Circle Gallery, wouldn’t accept it in barter for $20 maybe $40 worth of service. Why should he? he’s not in the art business, he’s in the transportation business.
A day or two later some guy looks at my Neiman on the easel, he leers at me, “I’ll give you $1,000 for it, cash.” I say, “It’s $1,300 in that frame, plus 7% sales tax.” Guy says, I’m walking away. Goodbye, I say.
He came back and gave me $1,300. I’ll give you an address in New Jerey, you can pretend you shipped it to me there, COD: I ain’t paying any damn tax. And I let him bully me on that fine point.
Circle had brought that graphic out at $300 or so. That means they wholesaled it for $150. That means that it cost about $37.50 to make, including paying LeRoy for the design and for his signature. (That serigraph had a lot of colors, would have taken dozens of passes to print: the printer gets paid, the paper gets bought no matter what the damn thing looks like.)
Original art? bullshit: it’s a limited edition reproduction, signed in pencil (to prove that the signature is not printed on a offset press).
Now: LeRoy was also paid in artists proofs, who knows how many: cash plus art, or, an IOU plus art. LeRoy had participated in preparing $30,000,000 worth of “art” that half-decade: early 1970s: here he is trying to lay one off on a cabbie for cab fare: there’s me, not allowed to bargain at all, not an owner, an employee of the publisher. Circle sold some at $300, raised the price to $600, didn’t sell any, raised the price to $1,200, sold a couple (I sold that one), raised the price to $2,400: and you couldn’t keep it on the wall: dentists coming over from Jersey thinking that this beat Wall Street.
So: I bring my graphic out at $100, sell a few, make it $125, then $150. But it’s mine. If I’m hungrey and ant dinner, I can sell one to the cabbie for $20, and another to the restaurant for another $20. If so, I’m not in the art business, I’m starving, or an idiot.
OK, Say I sell some for $100, some for for $200, I make it $500. Say I don’t sell any at $500. I take it out of my portfolio, store it under the bed. Twenty years go by: I donate it to the charity, say it’s worth $20,000, take it off my taxes.
Or: say I’m the bozo who bought it for $100: that same day I can put it up at auction, I can tell the auctioneer it’s worth $500, get what you can, give me $200 … That guy is gonn lose a lot more money than he’ll make.
In the 1950s I took Mad comix on loan from my neighbor. Then I bought my own: 10¢ each, 1952 or so. By 1969 I’ve got a stack of them knee high, wann truck them back to NY, my wife throws them out … Should I now show Hilary what a 1952, 53 Mad comic will auction for? sell through a gallery in Las Vegas?
My girl has a rusted Coke sign in her garage. My wife would have thrown it out a long time ago. So would I have probably; but Jan would expect hundreds for it.
So they find a town in Oregon, flooded decades ago. Now it’s high and dry for the moment, they send archeologists. …
We just found some cave paintings in Indonesia 40,000 years old. Priceless, send the archeologists, send the army, public treasure. What if they were found 200 years ago: worthless, burn it down, build a pub.
As an art dealer I relied on the public believing me when I said $100, I had to learn to say it with a straight face: I’d just paid $10 each for them, stack of 200, plus proofs. The doctor says five minutes of my time after I’ve kept you waiting for two hours past the appointed time is worth $200, pay on the way out.
What’s it “really” worth? Only what you can sell it for. If you can afford to wait, and wait, you can say it’s worth $20,000. If no body buys it you can say it’s worth $200,000. Nobody bought VanGogh, so we pay $60,000,000 for one, then $120,000,000 …
But there’s really only one question: What’s the earth worth before we destroy it? Make that two questions: What’s the earth worth while we destroying it? Maybe it’s really three questions: What’s the earth worth after we’ve destroyed it? and who does God have as a customer?
Re Art: I’ve reported this before, I repeat it here:
Walking up Madison Aveue one with the great Will Barnet, I said, Any work of art has three values: 1) the value it had to the artist in creating it 2) the value it has to its owner in owning it 3) what you can sell it for: and the three have nothing to do with each other. “Amen,” said Will, “very true.”

2014 10 05 An NFL player beats his kid, it gets in the news, right away there are people from several walks who think that it’s their business to tell some group of exerts, cops, social workers, to interfere. One guy plays the ethnicity card: black fathers discipline their children that way, everyone’s horrified, now it’s chid abuse and racism … My view very simply has always been: I don’t trust the family much but I trust state and church not at all: therefore, mind you own damn business. If you have to interfere, kidnap the kid: don’t call any damn cops, keep lawyers, and judgments out of it.
Well, I’m just reading The Brothers Karamazov, first time in over half a century, wow, just read the passage where Ivan tells Alyosha horror stories of Russian parental “discipline”, and Russian animal husbandry: a peasant beating his daughter, getting exonerated … a peasant beating his donkey on the eyes! Get it, read it, wring your hands: p. 265.

Do Fathers Matter?
2014 09 22 http://news.yahoo.com/review-fathers-matter-says-something-133841983.html
Parenting studies are biased, have always been biased, are still biased. Bias corrections are generally biased. Cancelling bias would require group intelligence, group imagination, group honesty which we lack, and can’t fix because we lack the intelligence, the honesty. Dads are being subtracted from this and that report by biased investigation but look at how maternity was subtracted from the bible! the OT. Then Mary got reamed back in, far from fairly. Judeo-Christian monotheism is a solo-gender concept.
Just reading Kubla Khan, now there’s a paired-gender poem. Yin / Yang, Jahweh / Yona …

2014 09 20 Scotland votes against independence
What would William Wallace say? I’d like to see Virginia vote to be independent of the US, or Kentucky. Those referendums might lose too! Guy wearing reb gear votes No. What would happen if NY of California voted Yes?

Sponsors of the NFL now want the NFL to police its players: don’t we already have police? The commissioner is fumbling, so what, ignore him, ignore all of them.
I remember in the 1960s discussions of why the cops don’t arrest hockey players for violence on the ice. Of course the arresting cop should have to buy a ticket to get in the arena. If a cop kidnaps Wayne Gretsky he ought to be able to hold Gretsky for ransom, get his ticket money back, plus some.
The sponsors want the players policed, they want everything policed. I’d rather see the Rice wife’s family gang up on Rice and pummel him. No, pk: what if the wife is an orphan? Then she’s out of luck, we’re all out of luck. Maybe it’s better the way it is, maybe Bedlam is the best Bedlam.

Everything is already policed, over-policed: that’s why you don’t know my writing: I mean my writing from the 1960s, 70s … 80s.

2014 09 18
Sports mismanagement, public hypocrisy, pimping sponsors, everyone interfering with everyone else
hypocrites pandering to hypocrites, everyone playing the buffoon.
just delicious, great time to be alive, great time to be dying: thank God, I’m on my way out!
I remind everyone: you can still play football, you can still play baseball, find a sandlot, find some like minded friends with nothing else to do. What does that have to do with sports cartels? what does that have to do with other cartels lubricating other cartels with money.
These guys embarrass us? Hitler embarrassed us? Nixon? Don’t pay to watch sports: don’t watch sports at all: DO sports. Find a sandlot, make up your own rules. If you don’t like it, take your ball and go home. Ignore the NFL and it will go away. (if enough of us ignore it)

2014 09 16 Adrian Peterson … running back facing charges of child abuse for injuries he caused when disciplining his son, was reinstated …
http://news.yahoo.com/nfls-vikings-reinstate-peterson-child-abuse-charge-020615683–nfl.html
My default settings are for God against man, for nature against society, for the individual against the group, for freedom against coercion … It can’t be altogether rational, life isn’t rational, too complex, reason is only a partial option. How does Dear Abby get to decide whether or not I may say “ain’t”? What right does the public have to say how parents train their child? I don’t want bullying by the public any more than I want bullying by the Church. I gues my real default setting is: be humble when you interfere in other people’s business. what is your business as distinct from my business, can such distinctions be intelligent? consistent?
One thing I emphasize, whatever we do, we (or our descendants) take the consequences: there a consequences no matter what you do, or don’t do (if we have descendants: don’t always be so sure: some consequences could be fatal).
Football, further: Penn State gets everyone in a lather about macho, then it turns out: there’s a den of fags. Now another klepto-topheavy sports university prepares to play Penn State with insulting banners: a faculty of child abusers, Nazi sodomites: and the NCAA gets all indignant: oh, no, you can’t scorn queers. All my life I was surround by people demanding that queers be scorned, queers of all kinds: jazz buggs, liberals …; now, about face. And the nazis are demanding that we embrace queers.
Again: why don’t we embrace what we want, and otherwise, mind our own business?
No, no: tolerance and being human go together only occasionally.

2014 09 09 The US Air Force has told a sergeant he will have to leave the military unless he agrees to take an oath with the phrase “so help me God.
http://news.yahoo.com/atheist-must-swear-god-leave-us-air-force-232153866.html
That is insane! Just as insane as the idea that any human society would actually support freedom of religion, freedom of thought, etc. Freedom of inquiry and civilization are head butting opposites. The monotheists impose a monopoly, no matter how absurd. You can’t have honor without uniformity of belief: we don’t: so we pretend we do, pretend it isn’t absurd!
It’s especially funny if you reflect that the US was invented by a bunch of Enlightenment atheists: Franklin, Jefferson, Washington … Lincoln runs for the most preposterous atheist of all when he speechifies about “God” …
The Twentieth Century slam-dunked us back among the Puritans: the pledge to the flag, for example: never mind the senselessness.

2014 09 09 CILIC BEATS NISHIKORI AT US OPEN TO WIN FIRST MAJOR TITLE
I’ve said before, I really hate some habits of sports announcing. Cilic has won a major; Good for him. Don’t say it’s his first major: how many must he win? Don’t impose obligations where simple celebration is in order. Congraulations, Cilic.
Sure you may try to win two, three … ten. But it should be a condition of congratulations for the first.
pk readers will know: I hate when the golf announcer whispers about the player’s birdie before he’s holed the ball. No: it’s not his birdie until he’s actually made the birdie. The grammar, the semantics of time.

2014 08 30 The frailty of remembrance, memory malleable
http://news.yahoo.com/tricking-memory-lab-animals-stokes-hope-ptsd-181203696.html
The would-be-rationalist must guard against creative memory: measuring starlight is objective, testimony is not: even one’s own testimony! not even from a church or federal bureau, court, etc. But what do people have to trust? Nothing!

2014 08 22 Md. ban on grain alcohol hurts violin makers
http://news.yahoo.com/md-ban-grain-alcohol-hurts-violin-makers-130135413.html
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Binge drinkers and frat boys aren’t the only ones despairing over Maryland’s new ban on grain alcohol: Violin makers who used the liquor to make varnish are also affected.
Central planning backfires in ways no one can reliably predict. Meaning no harm and doing no harm are not the same thing.
I repeat a couple of illustrations I used to the hilt in my deschool preaching while founding and running the Free Learning Exchange: 1970. My soap box was set up wherever I was: frequently in front of the Met Museum on Fifth Avenue:
Harvard University spent a great deal of money making its campus less daunting to handicapped persons in wheelchairs: replacing sections of curb with ramps, for example. Fine, very nice, now someone in a wheel chair could navigate that bit of turf a little easier. Trouble was: blind people had long trained themselves to navigate relying on the removed curbs: tapping a cane: Curb here, street there: be careful. So, suddenly the blind are walking out into traffic. That’s not what Harvard intended, they didn’t plan to sabotage the blind; but that’s what happened: and at great financial cost.
I’d jettison civilization’s centralized infrastructure, take my chances with nature, with life, with luck; sink or swim without the Nazis in charge. But the Fortune 500 rely on centralized this and that, and accept the benefits that temporarily seem to flow with cheating. No, no: get rid of the fed in every form: chaos will cull the unsustainable.
I’ll personally die to get rid of the Nazis? so be it, I’m willing. But I’m a minority: sabotaged, misrepresented: shortcuts the infrastructure takes every second of every hour.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Binge drinkers and frat boys aren’t the only ones despairing over Maryland’s new ban on grain alcohol: Violin makers who used the liquor to make varnish are also affected.

2014 08 14 New York town gets entire summer’s worth of rain
http://news.yahoo.com/york-town-gets-entire-summers-worth-rain-135022071.html
Jan and I have been agreeing that we’ve never seen a summer like this one for rain: though she reports that her digs in Nova Scotia are parched, are praying for rain.
Yesterday I was gardening her lake front. Absorbed, in an ecstatic trance, I ignored the approach signals of a storm: suddenly I was being drenched by rain falling in bucketfuls. The sun was shinning, the drops fell like missiles, bouncing from my shoulders like silver balls: blinding, deafening, wonderful. Never been rained on like that!
I gathered the tools into the barrow. By the time I got the barrow to the shed it was half-full of rain: several gallons in fewer than several minutes!
I’d left my car windows down. I put a big towel under me, shut the windows, drove home, carefully: hung to towel on my patio. Instandly it’s dripping huge puddles: the towel filled like the barrow!
Now I gotta check the weather records for the month, the season, the year.

2014 08 14 Celebrity BiSexuality
I shunned and despised gossip type news throughout my life: until recently; now I seek it, bask in it. The other day I went through a gallery of pix of Rory McIlray, his wealth and how he spends it. Our noses were rubbed in his engagement, his betrayal of poor Caroline. Replete? This was followed by a similar gallery on Tiger Woods: god what a beautiful ex-wife, what a fool. Now is that enough? No, next cam Michael Jordan.
Common denominiator: they all have refurbished girlfriends: I’m still trembling from the pic of Rory’s replacement for CW!
Today there was a parallel gallery of gossip about celebrities confessed to be bisexual. Jesus, they spent as much money dolling these over-remade dolls as a Hollywood studio does. One gal said she experimented with girl on girl sex in college.
That’s the point I wanted to arrive at: Back in 1960 or ’61 I lived in an apartment ajoining a few other apartments. Whoever started out sharing the rent Columbia guys, Barnard girls, Julliard girls … it quickly became mixed: the doors were seldom locked, you didn’t know from day to day who your roommate was, or who was in your bed. One afternoon I’m fucking the girl next door: Alan’s girlfriend? not anymore. “You make love like a woman,” she tells me.
That took me aback, brought me up short. She assured me it was a compliment. So now I need to know: how does she know? Ginny, I don’t remember her name, I’ll call her Ginny, said that at Vassar, her alma mater, currently in CU grad school, all the girls fucked and sucked other girls: week in, week out: weekends they fucked whoever: guys visiting the campus, the girls visiting some guys’ campus: don’t forget the better schools in those days were Not co-ed.
So: according to Ginny homosexual play at Vassar was the norm. 1960. She assured me that it was the same at Smith, at Radclif … Why are we still informing ourselves of what we’ve long known as though it were a novelty?

PS Love Like a Woman
Did Ginny mean that my cunnilingus was skillful? sensitive? ardent? She can’t: I didn’t suck c- in 1960. or 1961. 1963, yes. 1962: only just getting started: ready to puke the first couple of times. No. But I did know women’s bodies: had a good pace for kissing, touching, had a good locator, good sonar: ping … ping … PONG!

2014 08 06 Austrian woman faces fine for nude outings
http://news.yahoo.com/austrian-woman-faces-fine-nude-outings-134957570.html
I’ve travelled widely by car; crossing borders by plane, hardly at all. My choosing to follow Ivan Illich into deschooling way past the point of offending my society, triggering its power to punish, to interrupt, to withhold, I can’t travel twenty miles to the next town let alone cross a county line without real risk. But: my wife, my son, my girlfriend, my friends were all travellers. One college buddy flew to Europe for Christmas and Easter as well as for the summer, renting castles in Spain. My wife was just stepping off the plane from Germany, she herself from London, the moment I first met her. One of my girlfriends was a tourguide, from Germany, her husband owned the tour company. It was Inge who told me about the German binge on nudity. She’d report seeing a young girl in Munich sitting nude in a park, her open labia visible!
So: Austria is now back off a bit.

For the US: check out gay parades, nudity galore.

gay parade
thanx demotix

Scribbling this insert I notice something: several years ago those on display at gay parades were typically body-painted, wigged, costumed, but fully nude. The girls showed tits and rump, the pussy being naturally concealed; the guys showed what guys show. But not now: now it’ all pasties on the points, panties on the haunch, even if the panties are cut away.
In other words obscenity has taken full command: via the bureaucrats. Michelangelo painted robust nudes, the Puritans said No, the counter reformation made it all pornography.
Imagine old National Geographic pix of island girls with black crayon blocks obscuring their tits, their pussy, their face …
Government regulation, church regulation, regulation period, necessitates obscenity.
Jesus on the cross in a loincloth is as obscene as it is anti-historical.
I’m going to upload a gay parade chick from a decade or so ago for comparison:

SF gay parade

(don’t know who to credit, I’ve lost the source)

2014 08 01 I make no secret of Cecil pissing me off with some regularity, but If I didn’t mostly admire the column I wouldn’t be reading it, let alone writing about it. Sometimes I applaud what he says, how he say it. Today’s email included a “classic” from the Straight Dope archives that I applaud. Typically he says what I would have said in some order or other; here he said something I wouldn’t have said, had never thought of in these terms:
Why doesn’t water burn?
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1244/water-contains-hydrogen-and-oxygen-why-doesnt-it-burn
Cecil says (verbiage here being misleading no matter the verbiage) because it’s already burned! Water is (part of) the result of oxidation.

2014 07 29 Georgia girl struck by plane on Florida beach
http://news.yahoo.com/georgia-girl-struck-plane-florida-beach-dies-133607159.html
Her father died too.
Reminds me of a combo of important things:
Sailors fear drowning. But the British learned that most navel injuries, fatalities were the result of things falling from above: you were more likely to get clobbered by broken and falling rigging than by getting swept overboard.
I once reported that to a Pennsylvania landlady who rendered the instant Black Crayon effect (my son’s metaphor): hearing that there was a correlation between suicide and kids drawing with black, the adults didn’t examine the kids who were drawing dark; they took away their black crayons! Rather than see something profound about human cognition, my landlady just put me in communicative quarantine. But the reason I was in Pennsylvaina, dependent on a rented room (nice suburban hourse) was because I was already in communicative quarantine! The US, my church, my schools, my neighbors make sure no one listens to me.
Now, in Sebring, old, deaf, nearly blind, writing every day, publishing everything, no one has any idea who or what I am. Atheist fools. Never mind God: they’re atheists to truth: don’t believe in a real universe: with consequences!

2014 07 28 Sailors to navigate dirty water in 1st Rio test
http://news.yahoo.com/sailors-navigate-dirty-water-1st-rio-test-142654584.html
“Guanabara Bay, the venue for sailing at the 2016 Olympics, is badly polluted. Some liken it to a sewer.”
I’ve never been in Rio, never been south of Cuernavaca, but I have boated in sewers. I moved to Maine to get away from Manhattan pollution. Oh boy, my neighbor and I launched a boat into Waterville’s Kennebunk River. The current was up and things were streaming by: toilet trout! toilet paper, a parade’s worth! Any fish that could live on turds had it made.

2014 07 20 Plastic ‘Trash Islands’ Forming In Ocean Garbage Patch
http://news.yahoo.com/plastic-trash-islands-forming-ocean-garbage-patch-135855676.html
I’m several paragraphs into the article and it hasn’t yet mentioned Thor Heyerdahl‘s encounters with floating trash half a century ago. His first Kon Tiki voyage was in the 1947, by the ’50s he’d sworn he would never sail the Pacific again, the trash overwhelmed him.

2014 06 23 Ralph Reed: Those who oppose same-sex marriage can draw lessons from fight against slavery
http://news.yahoo.com/ralph-reed-draws-parallels-between-the-fight-against-gay-marriage-and-the-fight-against-slavery-135710307.html
Fifteen word title? That’s a sign right there that something is wrong.
Follow the wallow of logics if you want, read, savor, the article; but I’m going to jump straight to my point, my perennial point:
How is it anybody’s business who lives with whom? A sort of heterosexuality is normal: deviance from the norm is also normal. It is further normal to shun deviance: further, to gang up on deviants. Etc. Blah. All so familiar.
But there’s another point lurking: out of normal sight. It isn’t marriage. It isn’t hetero/homo. It’s subsidies!
What the issue is really circling, isolating, highlighting remains unspoken: it’s taxes! How the culture subsidizes this and penalizes that. Church and state. State and church. Church or state, state or church.
This kleptocrasy ignores this normalcy (that is, tolerates it, that is, tolerating, subsidizes it). That kleptocracy ignores the deviance and reinforces this or that norm. Make the fags yield the bulk of wealth to the heteros. Subsidize child-bearing.
OK, paraphrase. Heteros live together, have children, don’t have children, whose business is it? Fags live together, adopt, don’t adopt … whose business is it?
Does this or that normalcy have a right to gang together, ganging up on all else?
I see a cute couple, I think O, nice. I see a cute couple of queers, maybe I think O, nice, maybe I don’t. Fine. The society develops however it develops. It’s different though in this culture where absence-of-freedom is called freedom.
Absence-of-Freedom is called Freedom
We don’t need laws about taxes, we need freedom.
We don’t need laws about coupling, we need freedom.
Any church, any state, grown powerful enough to write laws, to push people around, to subsidise this behavior and persecute that behavior is too powerful. My prayer is that it die out.
I’ve lived my life offering this and that, enduring the best I could three quarters of a century of this and that sabotage. Now I live in a US that patrols borders: Canada, Mexico. If we came, how is it legitimate for us to deny someone else coming?
God tells me to let them come: somebody else says that God tells White people to Stop Them! We got different, incompatible gods. Which god will win? We won’t live to see.
What if there’s no god? and no winner?
We won’t live to see.

2014 06 17 Pete Rose, 73, expelled from MLB, manages for a day.
http://news.yahoo.com/frances-hollande-slams-unjustifiable-roma-teen-lynching-105536754.html
Pete Rose said that if he were ever reinstated he wouldn’t need to be reinstated a third time.
Oh, poor baby: hasn’t he earned our forgiveness?
Irrelevant, forgiveness has nothing to do with it. You may forgive the junkie who robbed you, you may forgive the Cossak who rapes your daughter: but you still needn’t give either one the keys to the house.
Nixon may have been sorry, but we shouldn’t have let him in the White House in the first place: unless what we got is exactly what we wanted.
Does Pete mean what he says? I don’t doubt it. When addicts swore they’d pay be back I don’t doubt they meant what they said; but they’re junkies! Gamblers, drunks: all addicts. Don’t believe a word they say, sincerity is irrelevant.
Or: let ball players gamble right on the field, during the games. Forget regulations, rules. Don’t have any umpires, just bathe the field in blood. Never mind three strikes or nine innings too.

2014 06 11 Too delicious: a bit ago Paula Dean’s casual perennial racism got her in trouble, wrecked her career, which for all I know what 90% based on that same casual perennial racism: now we’ve been entertained by recent trouble for Sterling as the NBA tries to pry him out of the public eye. But their day ain’t done, and the consequences will continue to manifest, even after there are no media to muck things up.

2014 05 37 quoting wikipedia: “1930 – Standing at 319 metres (1,047 ft), New York City’s Chrysler Building (pictured) opened as the world’s tallest building before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building 11 months later.”
What a revoltin’ development … er, memory. As a kid I got excited, as I was expected to, by NYC being down the block, and the Empire State Building ! being the world’s tallest! Oh, boy: that must make me important! I’m so embarrassed: what patsies we all are, what pansies.

2014 05 19 Hooray, Pamela!
Anderson gives speech on past sexual abuse
http://news.yahoo.com/anderson-gives-speech-past-sexual-abuse-121636721.html
Pamela Anderson announces her foundation: protect animals, her totem.
More bullshit from the bleach bottle? That’s what I was ready to believe, another damn Hollywood Madison Avenue whore. But no. Maybe somebody helps write her speeches, somebody smart; maybe she’s not as dumb as one might have thought. Read her account of her history of getting raped, by females, by males, by gangs … and her history, her appearance, her bikinis, her boobs … make sense. Bravo, girl: sorry I hadn’t been more sympathetic formerly.

2014 04 26 “There’s no room for Donald Sterling in the NBA – there is no room for him”, said Lebron James: because the owner is alleged to have told his girl friend not to bring colored people to the game.
Now, what does pk the anarchist think of that?
Tastes and preferences ought to be free. Communities will also express their standards. Individuals have rights, freedoms: so do cultures, communities, groups. Here there’s a douzy of a conflict. Individuals can be prejudiced, have unreasonable, unpopular standards, opinions; what we can’t do is impose them: build biased regimes, impose fascism, royalism, deism …
Sterling can be a racist in private, he can express his preferences to his girlfriend: whose business is it? But when personal preferences, no Chinese at my picnic, take on political powers, no blacks in the union, it’s different.
But, if you have a union, if you have teams and owners, you already don’t have a fair society.
Therefore it doesn’t matter what we do, we already missed the boat.
2014 04 28 I’ve subsequently read transcripts of Sterling’s actual comments. Jeez, there’s nothing there: just perfectly ordinary racism, boring common bias: a racist in a racist society, so what? So shoot, don’t pretend to be moral, indignant, holier than thou. Should a chimp pretend it’s Einstein? Gandhi?
2014 04 30 Now it’s announced that the commissioner has banned Sterling for life from the NBA, is imposing a maximum fine of $2.5: that no other NBA team “owners” are standing up for Sterling, and that he’ll be forced to sell the team.
Wouldn’t the average American agree with the bulk of what Sterling said? But that’s of no importance compared to this: What does “own” mean, what does “property” mean, in a society where an owner can be forced to sell said property?
I once quoted Gore Vidal to my son bk that there was only one political party in the US, the property party (and it has two wings: right and left, Republican and Democrat): bk astonished me by replying that there was only one party: the anti-property party!
Yes: the Hypocrites United party.

2014 04 14 Suspect in Kansas Jewish center killings faces hate crime charges

It was a bitter irony noted by many in the area that none of the victims was Jewish. The boy and his grandfather were members of an area Methodist church and the woman attended a Catholic church.

Dear Abby replies: regardless of what you were told in your previous community, a person’s sexual orientation isn’t a “lifestyle choice.” Gay people don’t choose to be gay; they are born that way. They can’t change being gay any more than you can change being heterosexual.

Leave it to Abby to pretend to know what’s true! I believe that what she says is partly true, some of the time. I also believe that it’s muchly true, much of the time, that people are not naturally flexible when it comes to more´s.

The myths of marijuana: Former DEA chief says pot legalization a ‘disaster’
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/power-players-abc-news/the-myths-of-marijuana-former-dea-chief-says-pot-legalization-a-disaster-224858590.html
These days, former DEA administrator Peter Bensinger is like a lonely voice crying out in the wilderness – an anti-drug crusader who served three American presidents, now battling the perils of pot at a time when legalization is all the rage.
“I think it’s a disaster,” he told “Power Players” of the rapid growth in sales of recreational marijuana in Colorado and Washington and medicinal pot in 18 other states.
It “will damage the young people in that state. It will damage the industries in the state, and put the highways in jeopardy,” he said. “Plus, it’s against federal law and the Constitution and our international treaties.”
Bensinger argued that the public, and politicians now pushing to legalize the drug, have been duped by the “myth” that marijuana can do no harm.
“You’ll dissipate a drink in about an hour per drink; marijuana can stay in your body for a week,” he said. “It goes to where we’re fattest, which is our brain. … It causes short-term memory loss if used chronically. It impacts on the immune system if used regularly. It affects your depth perception.” …

Etc. etc. Which still doesn’t address the point that interests me: However bad it is supposed to be, however good, how is that the government’s business?
I can see a society legitimately tolerating entreaties from priests, Please pay us to say a mass, Please partake of the host … But I do not recognize a priest’s right in a free society, if only we had one, to abuse power to force you to go to mass: or to learn Latin. Same goes for lawyers, teachers, cops. Mind your own damn business.

Let’s say that arsenic is a poison, it’s famous as a poison. What does that have to do with lawyers telling me they’ll put me in jail if I swallow any? Advise me to wear a helmet, a seatbelt, to have insurance… But don’t compel me. Beg me to learn to read, but don’t compel me.

If we’re attacked and I volunteer to fight, fine; if I run and hide, fine: don’t fight for me. Just leave me alone.

I believe we’d survive better without the interference of the mercantile managers, the puppet masters. With their control I don’t believe we have a snowball’s chance.

2014 02 13 U.S. scientists announced on Wednesday an important milestone in the costly, decades-old quest to develop fusion energy, which, if harnessed successfully, promises a nearly inexhaustible energy source for future generations.

For the first time, experiments have produced more energy from fusion reactions than the amount of energy put into the fusion fuel, scientists at the federally funded Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California said.
http://news.yahoo.com/u-scientists-achieve-39-turning-point-39-fusion-180631640.html

pk says: I remember getting excited when first hearing about the grail of “fusion” power, oh around 1960, maybe 1959. I also don’t remember when I first started to say, Hey, wait a minute: what about heat pollution? It was a long time ago though.
There are more reasons not to waste energy than just the fear of running out of energy. The sun may not burn out tomorrow, but you still don’t want to roast on the beach from 7 AM to 7 PM.

2014 02 13 When fire ants attack, they dab their enemies with powerful venom that usually kills other insects. But LeBrun’s team noticed that after crazy ants were dabbed with the venom, they would stand on their hind and middle legs, curl their abdomens — which are covered in glands that secrete formic acid — and smear the acid all over their bodies.
http://news.yahoo.com/crazy-ants-secret-weapon-lets-invaders-over-us-190840138.html

pk: Hey, wait a minute: on my ecology tours for the park I used to tell people that formic acid was what the fire ants sprayed on you when they attacked. Cheez, I hate to be wrong: even potentially, not definitely, wrong.

2014 02 06 The Second Amendment, at its core, spells out not one, but two, rights when it protects “the right of the people.” There is a right to “keep” a gun, there is a right, to “bear” a gun. There is an “and” between the two in the text, so that might well be taken as a significant indication that these are separate rights.
http://news.yahoo.com/constitution-check-does-mean-bear-guns-110205014.html
No, no, no: ignoramuses: That may or may not represent a distinction, a subtlety. In those days rhetoricians, bureaucrats, lawyers, politicians made the ordinary sound pompous by loading up on redundancies: to have and to hold … The Twenty-first Century should learn how to read the Eighteenth-Century. Don’t ever mistake legalese for English: they’re separate though related languages.
And don’t ever think that the confusion caused by blurring the two isn’t deliberate on the part of the legislators. Clarity and statist government are incompatible. The confusors rule.

I read a lot of science fiction in the seventh and eighth grades: ninth too. Wrote science fiction from the seventh grade on into my sixties. (Not since: busy recreating subverted K. domains since my censorship and arrest in 2006, 2007.) Humans on Mars, humans on the moon were commonplace to me. My first novel was intended to take place largely around Jupiter and its moons (would have I presume had it too not been sabotaged.)
But I have zero memory of humans applying to a kleptocracy’s bureaucracies for admission!
But how could it actually happen any other way?

2013 11 27 collapse at venue hosting WCup opener
http://news.yahoo.com/3-killed-collapse-venue-hosting-wcup-opener-162150653–spt.html
1967 to 1969 college seasons I taught at Colby in Maine. Hockey was the big sport there.
A couple of the stars were students of mine. Regardless we faculty had great seats behind the goal which was the enemy goal two out of three periods. We had the privileged view of the target we were attacking, really neat.
Well, I wasn’t normally a hockey fan, but I never missed a home game, routing from right behind the net, a clear view of most action. The poor besieged enemy goalie.
Ah, but 1969 had record breaking snow fall. One snow was sufficient for the game to be cancelled, UConn couldn’t arrive at all, let alone on time.
Good thing: cause the roof collapsed, right over the faculty section! Goombye.

(I’m resisting urges to promote some now, I think it’s more important to resurrect censored files first, especially to republish (and explain!) the particular file that got me arrested: then again I’m in a similar funk each time I’m tempted to add a new piece: should we stage minor Shakespeare (who knows for sure what’s major), or should we write a new play? (knowing it probably won’t be Shakespeare) …

2012 10 20 Mike Schmidt (yay) discussing A-Rod (yay)
No discussion about Alex Rodriguez can be complete without the subject of money. For an athlete who dedicates his life to his craft, the size of the paycheck is a major factor. No one has ever refused money or given money back. Athletes are entertainers, some ridiculously high-paid entertainers.
In a perfect world, entertainers would not be allowed to make more money than doctors, police officers or anybody whose work made a difference to society. Ours is not a perfect world, so things get out of balance. Something like a young super-athlete, who played baseball for an eccentric owner, in an era when expanded TV, media, Internet and general economic growth seemed evident, was part of a perfect storm.
http://news.yahoo.com/schmidt-rod-cursed-once-got-big-contract-075627526–mlb.html
Catch that? “entertainers would not be allowed …” Allowed by whom? A “perfect world” is imagined as a dictatorship, micro-managed by Big Boss.
I gotta say that except for that phrasing, I admire Mike Schmidt’s article the way I admired his baseball. (He could have had help but he could have done it himself too.) (I should also say that I was far more aware of baseball stars in Schmidt’s day than I am in A-Rod’s, and was still more aware in Dimaggio’s of Mantle’s day, but have never been a big fan, routinely aware.)
But now my real point: I take Schmidt’s point about the absurdity of comparative earnings: of course A-Rod’s salary is rediculous, wouldn’t he agree? But whose salary is not? Does anyone think that a GM CEO really deserves that much? Did Jesus deserve that little? Do I?
Change angle one fraction: Schmidt mentions doctors, cops … says they matter to society. True: but so does Charles Manson. What doesn’t?
Do we really want to prescribe incomes?
We used to support the aristocracy’s claim to all the land. We also blinked at the aristocracy’s indifference to the economic nonentity of the peasants. I don’t see how the aristocracy had any right to any more than the peasants. One day I find a dollar on the beach, another day I don’t find anything on the beach: am I going to quarrel with cosmology?
I don’t want modern doctors to make $700,000 a month; I didn’t want their forebears to get stiffed after a house call. But I don’t want Stalin prescribing the fortunes of either: or Obama: or Mike Schmidt.
Ironic, Mike? Absolutely. But when it comes to deciding who gets what I’d rather be the feudal peasant than that peasant’s king.

2012 10 20 When it comes to the birds and the bees, some parents may want to have that talk with their boys a little sooner than they expected.
Researchers have found signs of puberty in American boys up to two years earlier than previously reported — age 9 on average for blacks, 10 for whites and Hispanics. Other studies have suggested that girls, too, are entering puberty younger.

This and other articles flood me with memories of when I was ten, eleven … There was a girl in the neighborhood who’d blow you, stroke your balls, let you suck her considerable tits, but absolutely would not let you kiss her on the mouth: the nuns had told her not to.
Those nuns had no idea at what age the kids started what. (Not me; I was just a bystander.)
Try telling any authority though, any institutional monopoly, that its administration is incompetent.
That’s what Jesus got crucified for: his turning over the money tables told the Temple that its administration of rituals was incompetent.
We don’t have to listen to this! Wham.

I am of course reminded of Michelangelo, the Sistine Chapel art, the Counterreformation …
I’m also reminded of the 1960s when the state sat firmly on the face of the universities while protesters sacrificed themselves to free speech. Freedom? not in any society humans have ever formed. except temporarily, by accident.

2012 10 18 An array of local authorities — police chiefs, prosecutors, pastors and town Boy Scout leaders among them — quietly shielded scoutmasters and others who allegedly molested children, according to a newly opened trove of confidential files compiled from 1959 to1985.
At the time, those authorities justified their actions as necessary to protect the good name and good works of Scouting. But as detailed in 14,500 pages of secret “perversion files” released Thursday by order of the Oregon Supreme Court, their maneuvers protected suspected sexual predators while victims suffered in silence.
http://news.yahoo.com/perversion-files-show-locals-helped-cover-181647842.html
Wow. As Illich said, as I’ve been repeating and expanding, for over forty years, we protect our diseased institutions while we fade away.
See Nock, Our Enemy, The State on the antisocial nature of coercive political bodies.

Snake Woman

Blab on-line about how this image has been Photoshoped. I think the retouchers did a damn good job. Never mind how evil the task, they performed the evil well.
Could the people who commented about crudity have done better?
Do people really think that once upon a time imaging for the public (or for private, or for institutions) was honest? realistic?
Here’s an image I love, famous world wide, from way before there was a PhotoShop app that any klutz could buy.

ingres, Odalisque
Grande Odalisque, Ingres, 1814

Now: is that a photograph? Don’t be silly: 1814?
Is it realistic? Did any woman ever look like that? have a back like that?

Is is Ingres’ fault, or my fault, or the fault of Victoria’s Secret’s digital lab if people don’t know how deception-based imaging is? And always has been.

Next thing I know you’ll be telling us that the Bible is literally God’s word, no mistakes, no misspellings …

PS Never mind the VS image’s mannequin or how the image was done and redone: I’ll bet that somewhere in there was a girl with something very like that really pretty face! I don’t think they started with Typhoid Mary and then invented every single pixel to create Snake Woman.

So funny: I read that last word as “most valuable members”: the church counting future assets, so the six year old is worth more, to the church, than the sixty year old. No, no: vulnerable: pardon me.
Read the article though, it’s really funny.

2012 10 09 Roman Polanski was convicted of having sex with an underage girl —

Roman Polanski
thanx minadream.com

which was she, the nineteenth? the hundred and ninetieth? (I’ve always been jealous of Polanski: not only does he make films, not only do more than ten people know his name, and even have some idea of what he does, but he had Nastasia Kinsky delivered to him, wrapped in ribbon, when she was fourteen or so! Polanski had pairs, teams, of fourteen year old girls delivered to him! Look at him! he looks like a weasel: a shrimp weasel! But he’s a damn good artist: and so I am ready to forgive him for almost anything, to overlook most things.
Anyway, now the girl Polanski is fleeing the US over has a book deal.
OK, sober up, pk: take this seriously, the poor girl.
But: that’s not why I mention it. I mention it only to mention how selective human media are about public sins.
Crucify Polanski, go ahead, I don’t know who deserves what, I don’t think that we’re competent to judge deserving.
But we are competent, at least partly, to discuss fair play: and I ask:

Is it fair to talk publicly about Polanski without knowing the names and circumstances of all the fourteen year old girls delivered to Popes? to President? to CEOs? To Stalin …

Actually, Hitler and Stalin etc. may not have had too many teeny-boppers delivered to their bed, I suspect that sexual pathology may be common among alpha kleptocrats. I, in such a position, might order girl after girl, and still talk about my saintliness: the two really do have nothing to do with each other, in my god’s kingdom. Michelangelo’s David can be considered quite apart from whether Michelangelo wanted the fourteen year old girl or the fourteen year old boy: or the forty year old pigment mixer.

Let’s feel sorry for the girl, lets deify Polanski, lock up Sandusky, and vilify all the popes, etc.

PS I’m also jealous of Polanski every time I remember that he was married to Sharon Tate, the actress who got murdered by the Manson family. 1967 Don’t Make Waves played in the theater, Tony Curtis, stupid beach movie. I’m sitting there with Robert Taft Olmstead, yes, he’s related to all those famous names, and Sharon Tate is dumping on a trampoline and the camera zooms right into her snatch at her gymnast’s full stretch. “Cheez,” Bob breathed with reverence, “What a beaver shot!”
No kidding. With quim like that, she didn’t need to be fourteen.

Kill him, that’s a clear crime: We judge that you’ve done wrong, we’re mad at you, we’re afraid of you, now we’re going to commit our own evil and kill you … That I can accept, sort of. But putting people in jail, putting people in harm’s way … No no, the sexual predator’s crime pales in comparison.

Disputed call nearly causes riot at wild-card game
infielder misses the catch, ump called that batter out, under an obscure infield fly rule. the fans tear the stadium down. Who’s in change? Should sports wait till God rules? Can the crowd overrule the umpires? Maybe we shouldn’t encourage humans to trust any judgments: except gravity.
I’ll never forget an Olympics, decades ago: the American (black kid) was pummelling the European (white kid), the ref holds up the hand of the European, the Americans went berserk. Then some explainer explained that maybe the white guys’s defensive skills were outweighing the black guy’s not quite on target vigor. Blah blah: once upon a time the loser was on the ground, the winner was the guy still semi-vertical, and there was no umpire.
But really, there’s only one thing that counts: who got the girl?

2012 10 02 Ooph, that really is news: Many Low IQs Are Just Bad Luck
Everyone is born with several de novo mutations, or accidental changes in DNA (such as the deletion or duplication of a base pair) not found in one’s parents’ DNA. Most of the time, these mutations occur in non-crucial parts of DNA and thus cause minimal harm, but sometimes the mutations can have drastic consequences, such as by impairing the function of a gene that influences cognitive development. The new study finds that this random bad luck accounts for the majority of cases of sporadic intellectual disability.

2012 09 27 The last couple of weeks there’s been an article kicking around the net citing some German priest as warning Catholics against absenting themselves from the church just because the church keeps getting caught with its pants down: and kids pants down, and women’s pants down, and young men’s pants down …
Never mind the link, it should be easy to find.
Apparently, Germany’s government deducts tithes along with taxes: give 50% to the state, 10% to this or that church … Horrible! from every standpoint.
But what it really comes down to for me is one question: is the church essential to keep you out of hell? can the church get you into heaven (even though you clearly deserve hell?)
The crooked lawyer can get you out of a ticket, but can the disbarred lawyer get you out of a ticket? The question is, or should be, does the church have any clout with God?
If yes, pay up; if that clout has lapsed, or been reversed, don’t give ’em a dime!

But I should keep my mouth shut: imagine Al Capone gives $1,000,000 to the church, some bishop promises to get all his murders overlooked by God. The church takes the money: and God throws Al Capone and the Church into hell forever!
That’s what I want to see.

Some contemporary Bosh should repaint Hell, show priests buggering everybody left and right, and Lincoln and Obama buggering the priests.

2012 09 Sports: Tennis:

Serena is blazing once again. It’s good to see her so good. Please understand: her talent was commonly recognized even when she was a teen, Venus was knocking us out, but OMG look at little sister, looks line a linebacker! And I especially, in particular, was confident of great things from her, didn’t equivocate about it, was honestly glad: great black girl, redefines female athleticism: when she was 16!
I must admit however: I think think she’d have it in her to keep it up!
I thought she’d be #1, then I thought she’d have an extra piece of cheesecake, gain two hundred pounds, fifty pounds of it bosom, another fifty heine … and so long it’s been good to.

I’m glad to confess I’ve lacked faith in lots of tennis prodigies: I never thought Jimmy Connors would keep fighting the way he did, redefining determination. Or André Cheez, I’ve been wrong, and wrong, and wrong; but look how often I was right!

“The top-ranked Federer reaches his 34th consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal.”
Unbelievable records pile up: and he’s not the only great one: but the greatest one.
And seemingly the sanest guy!

It’s something these days: my girlfriend loves tennis, has cable, and is very knowledgable about the game and its history, her son a tennis pro, herself a veteran fan and player: was there to see Chrissy do this and Martina do that and Venus do something else. My other dear friend, Carole, is also a sports nut, pays particular attention to tennis and calls the Fed “My Federer!”
Yes, Carole. Me too.

Unfortunately, he didn’t keep it up in the Olympics, and didn’t keep it up here either. Oh well, he’s entitled to age, to be human …

2012 09 02 Cardinal says Catholic Church ‘200 years out of date’
The former archbishop of Milan and papal candidate Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini said the Catholic Church was “200 years out of date” in his final interview before his death, published on Saturday.
Martini, once favoured by Vatican progressives to succeed Pope John Paul II and a prominent voice in the church until his death at the age of 85 on Friday, gave a scathing portrayal of a pompous and bureaucratic church failing to move with the times.
“Our culture has aged, our churches are big and empty and the church bureaucracy rises up, our rituals and our cassocks are pompous,” Martini said in the interview published in Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
“The Church must admit its mistakes and begin a radical change, starting from the pope and the bishops. The paedophilia scandals oblige us to take a journey of transformation,” he said in the interview.
http://news.yahoo.com/final-interview-cardinal-says-church-200-years-date-190009537.html
“The paedophilia scandals oblige us ….”? Not plain decency? Not what Jesus seems to have taught? to have stood for? Not what Ivan Illich taught?
Maybe the Church should join forces with PennState.
Illich loved the Church anyway: loved it. But not me. Never.
Illich saw the Church as the Whore of Babylon: and loved it anyway.

A black firefighter has said he was assaulted, shot with a stun gun and arrested as he tried to help police while he was off-duty, in the latest racism allegation against Scotland Yard.

Edric Kennedy-Macfoy, 28, made a formal complaint after the incident in the early hours of September 4, in which he says he approached police who were dealing with a disturbance to give them a description of a youth he had seen throw a rock at a police van.

The group of six officers, who were dispersing partygoers — some of whom had turned violent — in Harrow, north London, assaulted and insulted Kennedy-Macfoy, according to his account, before deploying the electric shock weapon and detaining him without good cause.

2012 04 13 Several days ago I clicked on a photo of a crowd, in Spain, bent over, showing their asses. Yesterday I failed to find the URL, so I can’t show you the exact same photo, but, it seemed to me, that all the exposed buttocks were female. I don’t think this was co-ed vulgarity; it was a woman protest.

I was reminded of several things: there’s nothing erotic about dozens of asses. It doesn’t matter how spread open the buttocks are, how much anus show, how far into the anus — though in a mass scene, figure it this way, No anus shows: no vulva, no vagina; and a dozen vaginas could be “there,” pulled wide open.

I’m similarly reminded of the Jews-to-the-ovens scenes in Schindler’s List: Humans are indistinguishable from cattle when nudity is crowd-nudity.

But I was pleasantly reminded of an incident following college. I was visiting a classmate from New Rochelle who’d moved into my building. His brother’s wife was there, a spectacular blond from the Netherlands, long-long legged: beautiful, cheese, what hips … and she told of driving around in a convertible in high school, the car filled with her friends, all female, pulling up next to some carful of innocents, and mass-flashing them.

Now that I wish I had seen! Three or four beavers from a bevy of blonds, that might be something else!

Why though, right in my friend’s apartment, could I not tell the sister-in-law that I would very much like to see a demonstration of her moon. Well, my buddy’s wife with right there, my wife was upstairs … the visitor was the wife of my buddy’s brother, I knew, and liked, the brother too …

Vaginal orgasm: 2012 04 11 “Arguably, unraveling the mystery of whether vaginal orgasms exist should be simple: Ask women if they have them. But in practice, it’s a bit harder to tease out the exact sexual stimulation that leads to orgasm.” http://news.yahoo.com/does-vaginal-orgasm-exist-experts-debate-161011566.html

“If the vagina stimulation is simply working via clitoral stimulations, then vaginal stimulation and clitoral stimulation should activate the exact same place in the sensory cortex,” Komisaruk told LiveScience. “But they don’t.”

pk says: Gee, so may of these things I want to comment on. Some I do, some will get missed, some will catch up …

Today’s article just quoted seems to be saying that there are at least two kinds of orgasm for women: vaginal, the one Freud believed in, and clitoral, the one some many have been insisting on for half a century. Fine: I want to add another: no, not the G spot; no, anal!

I once helped a Puerto Rican girl look for her lost dog in Riverside Park at night. I rode her on my bicycle bar. When we stopped for a drink at the water fountain, she drank while still perched on the bar, bending for the fountain. I caressed her bottom as she did so. She decided that I was gentle, not disrespectful, that I hadn’t raped her: and she wanted more too.

One night in the movies, a Kurosawa film we were both seeing for the dozenth time, I slipped my hand into her pants from the rear, and began masturbating her. She responded so sensuously I couldn’t stop, even once I realized that I’d explored the wrong hole. My finger(s) had slid into her rectum. I was on the shit side of the membrane from where’d I’d meant to aim. Anyway, she came, and came. And I enjoyed her orgasm too, as much as a lover can in such things.

So: we weren’t together, Sophie and I, more than a dozen times total, but I gave her a bunch of vaginal orgasms, and that one anal orgasm. She gave me the most thrilling (interrupted) blow job I’ve ever had, but I never did come in her mouth: everywhere except her mouth! oh, no, and never her popo either. But: here’s the point I’m hinting at. Desperate as I was to eat her, and to indulge (and overindulge) her in clitoral orgasms, she never let me near her pussy with my mouth!

Anyway, it seems that orgasm origins aren’t always clear even to a clinic in women. I can see that. I’ve known woman who might as well displa a billboard when they climax, but many others, where i doubt that Houdini would know whether they came, or thought they came, or almost came …

But what the clinics clearly lack, and it’s a bit late for me to fill the gap, is an introduction to Sophie!

The article also says: “Some lucky ladies can even “think” themselves to orgasm with no stimulation at all. (There are also reports of women orgasming from tough abdominal workouts at the gym.)”

Ah, that reminds me of something I believe about myself (and possibly other males as well) but didn’t prove till this past year: I can get so excited kissing the pussy complex: the vagina, vulva, clitoris … that I feel I’m within an inch of coming myself! By the time I was twenty-three or so I felt certain that If I could eat So-and-so, some fellow grad student say, that I bet I’d get so stimulated that if she then caressed by balls, I’d spray her with come. Or, I’d make a bet with her friend: I’ll eat Heidi, you, Bonnie, watch, when I say, Ready, you caress my balls, and if I don’t squirt both or you within thirty seconds, then I buy the next round at the Whitehorse …

Well, this past year, it happened. I kissed, I came: and never mind, the touch wasn’t necessary!

Something similar was proved in the 1970s: a friend in Long Beach was eating me: and damn if She didn’t come!

Angry ex-girlfriend goes ballistic, rips off man’s scrotum 12 04 08

Talk about a ball buster.

An Indiana man was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after his scrotum was the victim of a vicious attack by an ex-girlfriend, The Smoking Gun reports.

The victim told police that his former girlfriend, Christina Reber, stormed into his apartment as he was innocently sitting at his computer. Reber, who he had severed ties with a few days earlier, first struck him on the head and then grabbed his scrotum and began “squeezing as hard as she could.” Naturally, he told officers that he “was in incredible pain when [she] grabbed his scrotum and began digging in her fingers.”

pk says: I’m embarrassed to be human, to be a member of this society, when I see journalism like that. As assault, an injury, a real injury, is treated as a joke. The Nazi laughs at the Jew’s dismemberment, the lyncher mocks the victim’s fear, the rapists laugh at the girl’s distress, the woman laughs at the male injury … Offensive: cannibals, vampires.

Famous Boat Race halted by swimmer

The Oxford and Cambridge University boat race was halted Saturday because of a man swimming in the River Thames, in one of the first incidents of its kind in the event’s 158-year history. The two boats were eight minutes into the race in London when the man wearing a black wetsuit swam in front of the two boats, and was nearly hit by the oars of the Oxford crew.

I’ll tell a story of my own!

Last year, Mr. Couch’s school principal demanded that he turn inside-out a T-shirt that read, “Jesus was not a homophobe.” The shirt also featured a rainbow-filled Christian fish symbol.

This incident is being covered in terms of freedom of speech. But where school is compulsory, where the state is involved, there can be no freedom of speech. The state puts you in a classroom, with a teacher, typically state-trained. You’re supposed to listen, while the teacher talks. The concept freedom has no application.

Why wasn’t this understood when school first became state run? Why wasn’t it understood when Ivan Illich and I offered alternatives: a free internet, a free marketplace. It’s no surprise to me now: I’ve never seen anything generally understood. Humans cheat, and are so unobservant, we think we’re getting away with it!

2012 04 21 Soiled 6-Year-Old Proves We Accept Humiliation of Children. By J Budd

According to MSNBC, a 6-year-old girl at Southwest Elementary School in Washburn, Mo., was denied a bathroom break because she and her classmates were in the middle of taking a state standardized test. As a result, the poor kid soiled herself in diarrhea. Teachers did not try to clean her up. Instead, they gave her mother a trash bag to wrap around her child and take her home in.

How would you feel if you were soiled in diarrhea and covered in a trash bag by the adults who are supposed to be caring for you? My guess is you would feel humiliated. And to think this is not the first time a story like this has been in the news. Why would any adult feel this is an acceptable way to treat a child? Is this an acceptable way to treat any human being?

http://news.yahoo.com/soiled-6-old-proves-accept-humiliation-children-183200974.html

I’ll build a post on this under K.’s DeDe: Deschooling: Children coerced into schools are slaves, have no rights. Having let their children be kidnapped by the state, by the school board, by the nuns, parents have no complaint: they already forsook their role as parents.

Once upon a time it was inexcusable, but not since pk offered FLEX, not since Illich showed us a way.

2012 03 26 For young children, being taught prejudiced ideas trumps positive experiences when it comes to attitudes toward other groups of people, a new study finds.

First-graders who are told by an adult that another group of kids is “mean” evaluate that group negatively even if they have a positive interaction with the supposedly mean kids. By fifth grade, however, children rely more on their own experiences with the “mean” kids to make judgments.

2012 03 21 In the study, volunteers who held a toy gun and glimpsed fleeting images of people holding an object were biased toward thinking the object was a gun.

Wow, think of all the mind rechanelling I did as a teen listening to jazz 18 hours a day!

2012 02 20 A school principal overheard a teacher saying the word “n-.” The former brought authority down hard on the latter. Reports refer to a “racial slur.” And people still tolerate censorship of Mark Twain!

Dammit, n- is a word, it is not a racial slur until you interpret how it’s being used. It’s not the word that dirty, it’s the use. [Bowdlerizing K., 2016 08 09, euphemizing the most popularly offensive words, so ironic for the freedom guy]

When Samuel Jackson says “n-,” it’s Not a racial slur. Dick Gregory wrote, “Ma, the next time you hear someone say “n-” they’re advertising my book!” Yes, that was the title of his book.

But it’s the world’s fault that they are still schools, and principals, and teachers, and school boards, not mine.

And it’s the world’s fault that there’s still racism, not mine.

2012 02 11 Bantu Climate Change

“Scientists had previously thought that a climate shift from warm and humid to seasonally cooler and drier had helped create those savannas, which covered even more of Central Africa in the past. But the 40,000-year-old record preserved in the sediment cores tells a different story. Roughly 3,500 years ago the Congo River suddenly began dumping a lot more muck without any appreciable increase in rainfall to explain such weathering. One plausible explanation is the simultaneous arrival of the so-called Bantu people, who brought farming into the region.”

It was Nigel Calder who first nudged me into turning against agriculture, reinforcing positions which had already been turning me against civilization. That was decades ago. It’s a shame I’ve been mostly excluded from the dialogue.

We need a god (such as Reality, such as Truth) to judge us: because we’re utterly incapable of keeping honest records. “Scientists” find natural records: slowly, probably too late.

But budgets come only from despoilers: excess profits.

2012 02 09 After taking into account pre-existing conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, the researchers found that people who drank diet soft drinks daily were 43 percent more likely to have had a stroke or heart attack, or died of heart disease, than those who did not drink diet soda.

Sugar Should Be Regulated As Toxin, Researchers Say

A spoonful of sugar might make the medicine go down. But it also makes blood pressure and cholesterol go up, along with your risk for liver failure, obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

Sugar and other sweeteners are, in fact, so toxic to the human body that they should be regulated as strictly as alcohol by governments worldwide, according to a commentary in the current issue of the journal Nature by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

The researchers propose regulations such as taxing all foods and drinks that include added sugar, banning sales in or near schools and placing age limits on purchases.

I’ll try to promote this news to a regular post, especially as i’ve been trying to publicize this news since 1970 or so.

Specifically, visiting Ivan Illich and Illich’s CIDOC, meeting Denis Detzel there, having been invited by Denis, me being the founder of NY’s Free Leaerning Exchange, Inc. and Denis being the founder of Evanston’s Learning Exchange, Denis having spoken up first, me being the first to pass around printed invitations, and me being the one who expanded Illich’s learning networks into an internet concept, cybernetic, universally coordinated, I attended Ivan’s seminars too. And Ivan was vilifying “sugar” because of the hacienda system of industrial scale sugar agriculture. I tried to point out that the NYT had linked consumption of sugar with a laundry list of major diseases. Illich didn’t absorb what i was implying, he pressed on with his condemnation of production and its social costs, its responsibility for present kleptocracy. Yes, yes, amen, but also … and worse

check out the symbolism

I’ve known this drawing “all” my life but hadn’t absorbed the square and circle associations: and that’s my cup of tea!

I knew it, but didn’t know I knew it.

A controversy is brewing over three reputable Christian organizations, which are based in North America, whose efforts have ousted the words “Father” and “Son” from new Bibles. Wycliffe Bible Translators, Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Frontiers are under fire for “producing Bibles that remove “Father,” “Son” and “Son of God” because these terms are offensive to Muslims.”

pk may of course develop any of these news post blurbs into a pk post.

A flaw I see in my practice of refreshing the post monthly, moving the old material to a new post archive is that blurbs from early in the month stay in the top file for a month; blurbs like the above on Bible translation publishers may get moved to the archive after only a day or two. Oh well, check around, check back often: and rely on me but also on yourself. Atlas can hold up the world for only so many years.

2012 08 20 Augusta National adds first 2 female members
http://news.yahoo.com/augusta-national-adds-first-2-female-members-150121538–golf.html
Argh! No! I don’t want Augusta National to do the right thing: anymore than as child I used to want the Roman Catholic Church to become Christian. I’m used to its role as a recast of the Temple of Jerusalem, Christ killer: it belongs in hell, scion to Satan, forever.

If all the information in the library is false, I don’t want any true information creeping in, confusing things. Something .00000001 parts factual is not factual. The Church, the Protestants too, should be Zero % saved: Augusta too.

Christianity teaches Original Sin: let’s acknowledge no group exceptions: individual exceptions, maybe; no groups.

2012 08 12 Joan Rivers tries making a joke out of the Constitution
http://news.yahoo.com/joan-rivers-tries-making-joke-constitution-102602484.html
Joan Rivers handcuffed herself to a shopping cart in a store which declined to sell her book, pretended it was a First Ammendment violation. Go, Joan.
The web article concluded, “In reality, Costco doesn’t really have a legal obligation, under the First Amendment, to sell any product.”
She was goofing on popular confusions made timely by protests about gay marriage and free speech at a chicken franchise.

pk shouldn’t have to explain this, but I’ll try: again!
The Constitution is a set of law the founding fathers were intending to impose on the federal government; this Ammendments are not prescriptions to the public. You, personally, don’t have to allow free speech; it’s the federal government which may not legally interfere with it.
The Ten Commandments: now that’s different.

2012 08 08 Teens Who Don’t Have Sex Still at Risk for HPV Infection
Article reports c. 10% of virgins still having some sexual transmission viruses! How’d they get it? Sexual activity, all kinds, all kinds except vaginal penetration by the penis. So: they’re giving, getting, hand jobs, sucking … Just not fucking.
Uh oh: an hour later: I see that the sample may not have been representative: black girls: still …

Unappreciated seafood shown respect in Maine
http://news.yahoo.com/unappreciated-seafood-shown-respect-maine-155335576–finance.html
“Redfish is going from lobster bait to the dinner plate.
Twenty Maine restaurants from Kittery to Bar Harbor put Acadian redfish dishes on their menus in June, and 23 eateries served up menu items with Atlantic mackerel in July as part of an effort to raise public awareness — and demand — for unappreciated seafood species.
Redfish at one time was a popular food fish, but is now best known as a source of lobster bait. Mackerel is popular overseas, but demand is low in the U.S. because Americans tend to shun its strong, oily flavor.”
When I moved to Maine in 1967 I gorged on lobster at several venues, my favorite being Young’s Lobster Poound in Belfast, and ate many a fried clam at Waterville’s Silent Woman restaurant. What drove me crazy was seeing the bulk of the bounteous sea food utterly wasted. The incredible coast line was covered with rock, the rocks were covered with mussels: and I never once saw anyone in Maine harvesting the mussels! You’d think that at the very least hoards of Italian families would visit from Mass to climb around on the rocks, sea foam blasting over them, and gather enough mussels to feed a hundred families.
I didn’t know they used red fish to bait the lobster traps till just now. I love red fish: and jelly fish, and sea cucumbers … Have to go to China to find good ways to serve half of it.

Sports Nuts
Arnold Schwarzenegger says that at 18 he sneaked out of military duty in Austria to enter (and win) a body building contest in Germany!
I love the story about the Iron Man competitor who sneaked out of the hospital’s ICU to run around the block!

Skeptic finds he now agrees global warming is real

Teaching at Colby College I tried to alert students to the dangers of global warming (and other possible consequences of human hubris) in 1967. Was that why I was fired? Blackballed? Or was it because I was a dove on Vietnam? One of the majority of department members who were fired? Eleven English teachers gone in one stroke! from a department of twenty-one!

Understand: I didn’t teach that globeal warming was true. Neither was Dr. Cole, whose NYT article I’d assigned; I was seconding his point that we don’t know! Just because you know that that you’re smoking yourself into cancer doesn’t mean that you’re not smoking yourself into cancer. Similarly, believing that you are doesn’t prove that you truly are. The universe is not constricted by human sentience. (I no longer believe it’s necessarily constricted by divine sentience. The universe is the universe no matter what we believe: maybe no matter what God believes.)

But here I want to emphasize something else:

The guy in the article is being publicized as a skeptic who’s changed his mind. Notice: the assumption by the media that we have time to be wrong! Delay doesn’t penalize!

I haven’t read the article yet, I will; but I wanted to say a couple of things before giving myself more information on the subject. I want to share a memory from the early 1950s. Mad comix had a Flash Gordon lampoon: Flesh Garden. The cover cartoon showed a monster with tentacles holding Dr. Zark down while he salted and pappered him, other tentacles anxiously wielding dining tools, knives, forks … Flesh said to the scantily clad female, “What makes you think that this creature intends to eat Dr. Zark.”

Or she said it: a skeptic. Hilarious, to a twelve year old, and I still love the memory of it.

The question is: do our dangers refrain from harming us while we make up our minds? I’m also reminded of my late neighbor whose house I couldn’t bear to be in for longer than a minute or two for all the cigarette smoke. She was furious that she was forbidden to smoke once she was diagnosed as terminal. She acknowledged that she had cancer, admitted she was dying, knew that lighting a cigarette would blow up her trailer and all her neighbors because her 5th wheel was stacked like a sub with oxygen tanks, but had she a voice left she would have screamed that her condition had nothing to do with the lifetime of cigarettes she’d devoured: while watching her precious Reds.

I don’t know. What I do know is that I try to stop trying to teach us anything. I don’t want us to learn:

That‘s my revenge!

I fail. I do still try to teach. I still crack jokes. Why?

Maybe that’s god’s revenge!

Martyrs still whisper wisdom even from the cross!

Later: Ah, one of the delicious things in the article traces the funding for the study to the polluters!

I have to add: the scientist who did the study says that skepticism had been the proper attitude previously. I hasten to second that statement so long as it’s advertised that the skepticism is proper to science; Not to survival!

If someone says, “Putting a bullet in your brain will kill you, absolutely, no exceptions,” the proper scientific response is skepticism. People have survived with crowbars in their brain.

It does Not follow from this “skepticism” than anyone is recommending that you put a bullet in your brain, that bullets in the brain are safe, or salubrious …

And I have to repeat: my point in 1967 had not been that anything had been proved. My point rather was that mankind would be well advised to look before we leap. That wisdom used to be common; but not for modern man; no, we think that god, luck, destiny … will rescue us from any precipice, and that we can drag race while blind drunk: that the universe owes us surival.

The males disrupt female bonding

Chivalry Not Dead: Male Crickets Risk Lives to Protect Mates

2011 10 09 I understand societies refusing to learn big lessons from radical philosophers. Kleptocrats protect themselves from honesty, from intelligence, from legitimate order … So: my lessons about Shakespeare, about compulsory education, about compulsory military service were no better received than my messages about basic social commandments such as Thou Shalt Not Kill and basic social documents such as the US First Amendment, are rejected by being interrupted, not getting discussed, getting falsely discussed … But some of my relatively trivial points, points of historical fact, also get ignored! Grr!

For example: chivalry: the linked article quotes,

“Many people probably think that ‘chivalrous’ behavior is exclusive of humans or closely related mammals, linking it in some way to education, intelligence or affection,” said researcher Rolando Rodríguez-Muñoz, a behavioral biologist at the University of Exeter in England. “We show that even males of small insects, which we would not define as intelligent or affective, can be ‘chivalrous’ or protective with their partners.”

I’ve failed to explain for half a century: chivalry was not about protection of partners; it concerned behavior in adulterous relationships among politically and socially unequal pairings. Lancelot behaves chivalrously toward Gwenivere, King Arthur’s wife. He’s a knight, she’s the queen. Sir Walter Raleigh muddied his cloak for the convenience of Queen Elizabeth. She was the queen, he was not the king; he was a courtier.

Imagine me kissing the hand of Michelle Obama, hoping to grab her heine in the hallway later: that’s chivalry.

Chivalry is not about protecting your wife, it’s about seducing the boss’s wife.

In chivalty, your own wife you can treat however you want to: she’s your property.

And women of lower social status, just rape them. Don’t bother your head with morality. That’s what the priest Andreas Capellanus wrote in the court of Marie de France, nearly a thousand years ago.

Noteworthy Marathons

Van Gogh death not suicide, biography claims

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2011/10/17/van-gogh-biography-death-questions.html?cmp=rss

I just wrote my son:

Did you hear the new theory of how Van Gogh died? I’m shocked: his painting the Wheat Field with the crows and the castrate road has been sacrosanct in my mythology for more than half a century. I followed the paintings chronologically at the Guggenheim in 1961 and almost had a seizure of my own at the Wheat Fields.

Now they say that some kids shot him by accident: tormenting him deliberately, like the kids in City Lights tormenting Chaplin, but shot him by accident.

It may have been an accident he embraced: bless those stupid cruel kids, they’ve found a way out for me, an ending.

So Van Gogh was protecting his murderers when he claimed suicide!

World’s biggest virus discovered in ocean depths near Chile

http://www.tecca.com/news/2011/10/11/megavirus-chile-ocean/

I iterate a perennial K. theme, rhetorical sloppiness in journalism, academia, pop culture … Think of that headline: World’s biggest virus discovered in ocean depths near Chile. “World’s biggest” suggests knowledge: we have a handle on a spectrum of sizes. “Discovered” betrays ignorance: ignorance modified: we know know something we hadn’t known, where we’d thought we had known. If we know everything then discovery is not possible. If we don’t know everything and know that we don’t know everything, then, even with discovery, we can’t trust that our knowledge is complete.

Wittgenstein asked how we could reasonably know for example that we had never been to the moon. Not remembering, not being able to imagine how, doesn’t prove anything: were you never asleep? You attention never faltered? God, or a devil, couldn’t have taken you to the moon while you blinked?

Perfect knowledge can accurately tell all sizes. Partial knowledge should be humble about the biggest, smallest, best …

But, pk: Silly: it’s an abbreviation: it means “World’s biggest virus, as far as we know to date, discovered in ocean depths near Chile.”

Why Some Languages Sound So Fast

The American ‘allergy’ to global warming: Why?

This article reports the multi-millions spent by the companies which profit from the destruction of our life-base to confuse issues, to prevent facts from being established. “That was the year U.S. oil and coal interests formed the Global Climate Coalition to combat efforts to shift economies away from their products. Britain’s Royal Society and other researchers later determined that oil giant Exxon disbursed millions of dollars annually to think tanks and a handful of supposed experts to sow doubt about the facts.”

We have massive interests vested in death, failure, extinction.

I give up, let’s all just shut up and die.

Understand: pk tried to join the warnings about global warming in 1968: I got stomped on, stomped the harder the more I protested. Now I absolutely do not want the stompers to survive: I don’t count, I never supposed I was immortal anyway: except in Christ: and by Christ I merely mean a positive direction to evolution. There is none? Let’s exit.

Communication is impossible in society? then society should fail.

Sports:

2011 09 24 “Endurance swimmer Diana Nyad pressed on through the Florida Straits on Saturday morning, her pace a little slower after a rough night of painful Portuguese Man o’ War stings but still making progress around a quarter of the way to her goal.”

The publicity had emphasized that this hero of athleticism is swimming without a shark cage: how come there was no talk about no jelly fish cage?

Brain Dead? Doctors Said Yes, Patients Proved Otherwise

Back in 1970 or 1971 the World Future Society invited this founder of the Free Learning Exchange, Inc. to a three day weekend with Gordon Pask talking about cybernetics. It was a heady time. I loved everyone present. One pair of guys I remember were dedicated to dismissing the notion that doctors, hospitals could be trusted to distinguish the living from the dead.

We know from old grave sites that many a coffin received frantic scratch marks from inside the coffin lid after burial: the living were anxious to get rid of corpses pronto.

I loved Monty Python’s skit on the Plague: John Cleese, heading a mournful procession calls to a beaten drum, “Bring out your dead.” Other Pythons carry “corpses,” piling them on a wagon. Michael Palin looks up, smiling with half-wit brightness, and says, “I’m not dead yet.” And some other Python kocks him on the head: he’s thrown with the corpses anyway.

Don’t forget, there are profits involved with quick decisions about death: therefore such pronouncements cannot be trusted.

But then there was no good reason to trust the medical profession in the first place: there are profits connected with everything.

Does that mean I’m a socialist, want every Commie to pay every other Commie the same? No, it means I don’t trust human institutions: past, present, or future.

And even if we were all paid the same, we’d still cheat: with alacrity. That’s what we are.

Nice Guys Finish Second, Women Finish Last

2011 June

Apparently Russell Crowe posted statements related to circumcision, and now has apologized! He said something about loving all human groups: clearly a reference to Jews and Jewish law, no? Apparently circumcision is getting voted on in San Francisco. I want to say:

Let’s grant God the right to set conditions for being Jewish, let’s say those conditions include the circumcision of males shortly after birth. Still, what gives Jews the right (or God the right) to compel circumcision for the entire population?

Note: I am not commenting on the San Francisco referendum, or what what Crowe posted: I don’t know the details; I’m talking about political prescription, proscription. I’m talking about political coercion. (And I’m talking about cultural imperialism masked as science!)

Let’s say it’s palmed as a health issue: still: what gives medical professionals, state licensed, the right to tell everybody what to do? I concede the right to ask, to beg, to argue, to persuede, to entreat; but not to compel.

I see it as conceivably your right, your baby’s father’s right, your baby’s mother’s right, to want the baby’s foreskin removed – I don’t conceed that it is your right, I say it’s conceivably your right.

I see it as a church’s right to implore girls not to have an abortion, to implore girls to keep their legs crossed …

Compulsion is different. Only Nazis‘ compel.

Remember: I’m the deschooler. I’ll grant a state the right to promote school attendance, but not to compel school attendance. I’ll grant a state the right to argue for literacy, but not to compel literacy, and certainly not to assume a monopolistic control over literacy.

“Hollywood” might recommend that we see “The Sound of Music”; but attendance, ticket buying, popcorn consumption … should remain with the audience.

Warn against smoking, sure. Let cancer sufferers sue smokers, and tobacco companies (and Congress, who used to shill tobacco). But the state mustn’t jail smokers.

Appeal against abortion, appeal for circumcision … for exercise, for a healthy diet; but don’t jail the sedentary, don’t conscript exercise classes …

Don’t jail them; but don’t spend a penny of public money on their poor health either! If a junkie overdoses, or injects rat poison, so what? Leave the corpse in the gutter. Or remove it only for public hygiene.

I’m against military forces. I’m against law enforcement.

I’m all for our taking consequences: from nature, from god … from reality.

I’m against the church, the state, Big Brother trying to be intelligent for us.

I don’t want God to be intelligent for us either. if we can’t grow our own brains, the hell with us.

How dare we talk about freedom? Those of us who have never had any? or not much.

Baggy pants lead to players arrest at airport

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110616/ap_on_sp_ot/us_saggy_pants_arrest;_ylt=AlqZAh4XpSVA_vnWg3c5MRsLMxIF;_ylu=X3oDMTJpOGsxcGZkBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTEwNjE2L3VzX3NhZ2d5X3BhbnRzX2FycmVzdARwb3MDNgRzZWMDeW5fbW9zdF9wb3B1bGFyBHNsawNiYWdneXBhbnRzbGU-

I saw a lot of guys with their pants worn below their ass in jail. Apparently it’s a mostly black thing, a mostly jail thing. Apprentice jail birds may immitate the fashion before their first arrest, but don’t worry, the hell-bent-for-jail will usualy find their way there before long. But it’s my understanding that the practice originated in jail: in largely black jails. When I was arrested I passed through some rough jails; but once the man decided I wasn’t actually killing anybody, they put me in harmless old men’s jails where I saw some dredlocks and low pants but only a few.

A guard at Palm Beach, Gun Club Road, explained it to me. He said that in the mostly black dorms of those deemed ultra violent the alpha male convicts claim harems from the population. The alpha male may seduce or rape any of the males, but if he wants to use one in particular again, he pulls his pants down over his ass. If he’s his regular, he pulls the kid’s pants way down.

So pants down over the ass is a kid’s way of claiming to be claimed: as a boss-convict’s catamite.

The courtesans in a kings court go to great lengths to show their status with the king: if that status is favorable. Those out of favor go to great lengths to pretend to be still in favor; or to proclaim that they were once in favor.

Some little girl in the marketplace might be imitating some old whore without knowing the meaning of the gestures, the symbols: silver anklets, rings in the nose …

2012 07 28 Rude surprise: French fed up with own incivility
http://news.yahoo.com/rude-surprise-french-fed-own-incivility-151021096.html
Subway poster shows a guy with a bull’s head, horns, forcing his way off a subway car as others try to enter. Damh right: people getting off any conveyance of limited capacity should always have the right of way over people entering. Let them off the elevator, then get on! Let them out of the crowded store, then enter.

2012 07 26 Korea flag blunder ‘was honest mistake’ says British PM
The organizers displayed the wrong national flag, switching South Korea with North!? Imagine putting the Dream Team on the floor to get medals, then showing the Soviet flag! Mistake? sure. Honest? could it have been deliberate? a war of annihilation might follow!
If you have the Hatfields and the McCoys to tea you better get the seats right, and the name tags.

2012 07 26 Man Reunited with Wallet Lost at Bottom of Lake 15 Years Later
Guy lost it cliff jumping, guy found it scuba diving, brought it to loser’s door.
My father told a story of seeing a group of guys gabbing on the sidewalk. My father noticed a $10 on the sidewalk amid their feet. None of the guys seemed to be reaching for, getting, or squabbling about the sawbuck. My father intruded: “Aren’t you guys going to take that money?” They looked at my father like he was from Mars, turned, all of them, and walked away, in different direction. My father bent down and claimed the cash.
I know better than to trust my father’s stories 100%, but I trust the core of this one.

2012 07 21 Doping … continues, now Death Penalty is added!
The greater part of Barry Bonds career passed (his father’s too) before I paid any attention to him. But when I did, wow! Could he wait on the pitch! I was awed: the way I was awed the first time I saw Joe Dimaggio, or Bobby Hull .. or Wayne Gretsky, or Michael Jordan …
Then I had Roger Clemens shoved in my face. He was a RedSox, brushing back Yankees at bat. I thought he should have been arrested! (That’s a metaphor, a loose metaphor: anarchists don’t believe in cops, in arrests, in jails: at least not this anarchist.) Then I saw Clemens as a Yankee brushing back RedSox! (I was sort of a Yankee fan; but I still was disgusted by him: I don’t want sports to stand for war, I don’t want All’s fair
Now we’ve got something a bit more serious: PennState using power, silence, interrupting messages … to protect a homosexual rapist and abuser of power … Now there’s talk about a “Death Penalty”! Suspend football at PennState! No! Suspend PennState! Suspend all government-fiated educational institutions. Make Paterno pay his salary back, refund all bonuses, prizes. Make all PennState grads return their degrees, their licenses, their promotions for cancellation!
Turn over all those funds to me, pk, the founder of FLEX, the inventor or the sabotaged internet, another silenced disciple of Christ, messenger of God!

Well, here we are sending athletes off to London, hoopla, where they’ll advertise Macdonalds, and make headlines for doping!

If we don’t believe in doping, cheating, bureaucratic sabotage, why are we having another damn Olympics? Why doesn’t a general set of Death Penalties protect the innocent passive consumers from another round of fraud, cheating, lies?

Hoopla!

Why? Why? Because I just saw a photo of Nadia, recent, standing, a beautiful young woman, before a 1970s photo of her, that stunning girl!
And I remember seeing Ali at the Olympics, as Cassius Clay! And I remember seeing Leni Riefenstall footage of Nazis getting blistered by Jesse Owens …

2012 07 11 “In the past, researchers thought that the aurora borealis was too far away for people to hear the sounds it made,” Unto Laine, from Aalto University in Finland, said in a statement released today
http://news.yahoo.com/northern-lights-oddity-strange-sounds-auroras-explained-213011074.html
I first heard the aurora the first time I ever saw it! upstate NY, 1963 or so. The lights were fabulous: and they were loud!
How come scientists are commonly so ignorant? Shouldn’t they be more not less open to evidence than the rest of us?

2012 07 05 San Diego’s embarrassing 15-second fireworks failure
Organizers of the Big Bay Boom promised a dazzling 18-minute pyrotechnics display, but a technical malfunction caused everything to explode at once
I once watched NYC 4th of July fireworks from a rooftop on Riverside Drive and 116th Street, then ran into a friend who’d watched from the next roof down. I was raving about the spectacular climax; my buddy reported that his companion suffered something awful, Oh, no, he kept exclaiming, it’s horrible, dozens of people drowning. Sure enough, next day’s Times: one of two Macy’s rocket launching boats had blown up: that wasn’t a choreographed acceleration of rockets; that was a catastrophe!

2012 07 03 The woman who upheld her vow of silence… during childbirth
http://news.yahoo.com/woman-upheld-her-vow-silence-during-childbirth-071600274.html
That’s what I like to see: insane vows, kept!
One think I love about some guy living on top of a pole for twenty years is that no one even knows why he’s doing it!
Simultaneously one thing I love bout religion is that it has a guaranteed explanation for anything, no examination required: your stock went down? It’s ’cause you have a dirty mind!

2012 06 30 China: Pilot failed to locate runway before crash
http://news.yahoo.com/china-pilot-failed-locate-runway-crash-115518200.html
Gotta tell a joke: Polish Airline Makes Maiden Visit to JFK:
But of course the plane crashed! The crews arrived, foamed everything down, no one killed, everyone on the way to recovery. So they debrief the pilot: one journalist not avoiding sarcasm: “What’s the matter? Wasn’t the runway wide enough for you?”
You see the plane had crashed not at either end of the runway but abruptly t the side: headed right into the fence and the neighboring field!
“Oh, it was wide enough, the Polish neophyte answered, “Miles wide! and miles! But it was so short!”

2012 06 30 The Supreme Court decided Friday not to consider reinstating the government’s $550,000 fine on CBS for Janet Jackson’s infamous breast-baring “wardrobe malfunction” at the 2004 Super Bowl.
pk is always ranting about the preposterousness of laws penned by legislators who congenitally can’t call a spade a spade. The media said that Janet Jackson exposed a bare breast: anyone with eyes could see that her breast was not bare; she wore a metal star over a pierced nipple! Now: if the law said you can’t show tit and you can’t show pierced tit either, that would be different: and: Janet Jackson, and everyone! should have known in advance that that was the law.
Law might be become legitimate if no law could change one all kindergarteners had learned the law; but no, we change the law every other second. Lawmakers, cops … Nazis … want the law to be whatever they want at the moment, clarity not necessary. Thus, all kleptocracies are totalitarian, democracy just another misdirection.
At Judgment, should we live so long, any god worth salt should explain: if the law isn’t clear, consistent … possible, then there is no law, just caterwaulers howling: cats in a false rut.

2012 06 29 German court circumcision ban meets wave of criticism
According to the court ruling, “the fundamental right of the child to bodily integrity outweighs the fundamental rights of the parents”.
http://news.yahoo.com/german-court-circumcision-ban-meets-wave-criticism-185042266.html
At last! All my adult life I’ve failed to stimulate any intelligent discussion of this issue. I couldn’t discuss it with my pregnant wife, with her birthing doctor … with otherwise liberal people. All turned to stone.
Dig it: there’s a difference between forbidding Jews to circumcie their boys and compelling all male babies to be circumcised!
Compulsory mutilation! without any actual proof that there’s a good reason for it!

2012 06 22 Famed sports painter LeRoy Neiman dead at 91

That reminds me that I ought to tell a few Neiman stories: I sold a lot of his stuff, saw him several times …

2012 06 22 Kakapo brink

David Attenborough’s treatment of the kakapo was heart rending: the male calls for a mate, if no female hears him, he’s left solo.

2012 06 22 Texas woman hit with $1.3 million-plus electric bill
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/texas-woman-hit-1-3-million-electric-bill-165517099.html
See my memory just below of a phone company error. I also remember my sister in law getting an absurd bill from the gas company: their mistake of course: even though Alison was very careless about utilities!
I’ll recall some bank errors over the last half century if I find time to move these couple of comments to their own post.

2012 06 21 Detroit man gambles away $1.5 million accidentally given by ATM
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/detroit-man-gambles-away-1-5-million-accidentally-191619543.html
If the bank gave it to him, how is it not his?
The phone company once gave me a four figure credit: $2,500 or so: just when my business was empty! Cheese, did I need that money. Then the phone co realized their error, wanted me to pay it back.
Hahahahahaha. With what?
I was broke because the phone company had ignored my suggestions of 1970 for an internet in part-cooperation with phone companies!
I was just moving anyway: and the new address phone company never heard the screams of the Manhattan phone company!
Thanks to human incompetence, justice is sometimes done: paraphrasing Brecht’s Mother Courage.

2012 06 20 Around the world, sticking up for the environment can be deadly, and it appears to be getting deadlier.

But of course the authors of the AP release only write about instances they know about, and not all of those. What isn’t under-reported?
I must at least sketch a list of the activities of mine I’ve been punished for: though causality is difficult, deniable. Let’s just say I did X, Y followed: never mind “caused.”
In 1967, 68, 69 I was announcing some of my positions to matriculated students: I’ve had few matriculated students since; I’ve been fired, my son kidnapped, I’ve been blackballed, not published, arrested, tortured, lied about … Oh no: let’s not say that the one caused the other.

I sure hope I promote some of these News entries into pk posts.

2012 06 14 Oh, Jesus, now the law morons are going after Lance Armstrong!
The state beat me up, and got away with it, cause it had broken me all my life. But Barry Bonds, Clemens … No, no: they have millions! OJ … And they’ll give huge amounts of their millions to lawyers …!
Rome can beat up on Jesus when Jesus doesn’t have a penny in his robe, But Rome better be careful sabotaging some gladiator who beds the emperor’s wife.

Think how much money could be saved if the law makers simply passed a law saying that an accusatin by the state is tantamount to proof. Then Jesus, Barry Bonds, Lance Armstrong don’t have to feed a dime to any lawyers, the fed can simply evaporate anybody they please: and our intelligence ha ha ha ha ha won’t be insulted with evidence.

But seriously,
What we ought to do is cease and desist from crowning champions while everyone, especially the state, is under suspicion!

Clemens

I’ll Have Another gets smeared by suspicions that the trainer was a doper? Don’t ever let the results of the Derby or the Preakness become official. Don’t pay Any winning tickets! Too uncertain. Don’t have an election if the people can’t vote, the officials can’t count, and the Constitution can’t tell the difference between an electorate and a Supreme Court!

Who won the NBA East finals? Don’t know, can’t tell, too many questionable calls!
Who won the French Open? Don’t be ridiculous! With no way to tell whether a ball was in or out?

But of course there is a way: the umpire decides! Why not just ask the umpire who won before the players take the court?!
Think how much money could be saved.

Vatican attacks popular U.S. nun over sexuality book
http://news.yahoo.com/vatican-attacks-popular-u-nun-over-sexuality-book-135828506.html
The Vatican criticized a popular American nun on Monday, saying her book on sexual ethics, including topics such as masturbation and homosexuality, contradicted Catholic teaching and must not be used by Catholic educators.
The Church should drop dead, right? a long time ago.
It’s like land mines in Laos still blowing kids’ legs off long after the battles they were planted for.
It ain’t on earth that the war lords pay for their crimes, any more than the polio in Saulk’s petri dish got zapped. No, justice takes place in a Different Universe! God will rule, the truth will be known, Christ will prevail; but not here!

PS If the fed hadn’t arrested me in 2006, destroyed my five internet domains in 2007, the court order to censor part of one of my domains scaring the pants off my host, which then evaporated everything! nearly 8,000 files, 4,000 of them text, some whole books! my stories about nuns I’ve known wouldn’t have evaporated along with everything else. As I live, I put them back, with a stroke the kleptocracy can destroy them again, never suspecting that God might keep copies! Anyway, in 1970, 71, 72 I was friends with a famous nun, always getting dragged off by the police as she’d lay-down strike in St Pat’s on 5th.

St. Theresa!
Man, oh God, St. Theresa!

One weekend at a nuns’ retreat in Westchester where I and a few dozen others were invited for a nice weekend, I remember her corning me and making blow job jokes!
Decades later, I still love her!

The Church’s Last Legs
“The Catholic Church is hammering so many nails into its own coffin that even an outside observer like me is left shaking his head at the ridiculous behavior of its leadership. The Vatican (generally meaning “the Pope”) is angry with nuns for their behavior, and Cardinal Dolan from the New York Archdiocese is embroiled in yet another pedophile priest scandal. Let’s look at how the two situations prove the Catholic Church is on its last legs.”
http://news.yahoo.com/catholic-church-dangerous-outdated-dissolve-204000761.html
pk adds: Ivan Illich offered to reform the Church in the 1960s. He got his head handed to him, just like Jesus did when he offered to reform the Temple. I joined him: my head had already been removed multiple times.
But: no one learned: that’s the lesson of the Passion: no one learned then, no one has learned since: except Illich, me … maybe Francis … I can’t tell how many others, God alone knows. Man never will, not until and unless God knocks us down, gags us, makes us hold still, take our medicine.

Let me focus on a detail:

“Another CNN report talks about the Vatican’s recent attack on American nuns. The statement from Rome says they have gone rogue and have become radical feminists. The reason? The Pope thinks they should spend less time supporting social justice and more time opposing same-sex marriage, abortion, and euthanasia.
The Vatican is enforcing sanctions against the nuns, taking punitive action to get them back in line. The Pope is essentially telling each of these nuns, “Shut up and get back in the kitchen where you belong, woman.” Apparently in the mind of the Pope social justice just isn’t a big deal.
It’s possible that Dolan was trying to protect the institution of the Church with his actions. If so he and his Church are broken. I don’t care how loyal he is to the Church — it should be instantly obvious that the well-being of a child rape victim is more important than an organization. Normal people can’t stand the idea of letting child rapists off the hook.”

Obvious? to anyone? that the well-being of a child rape victim is more important than an organization?
No, no. The Church is fossilized proof that we prefer institutions to people, lies to the truth … Barabas to Jesus.

2012 05 25 The assignment of area codes may seem random or even malevolent to you, John, but this merely reflects your troubled inner being. Actually it’s pretty sensible. The North American Numbering Plan, of which the area codes are a part, was worked out in the late 1940s to ensure standardized numbering nationwide, helping to make direct-dial long distance possible. (Prior to that time you had to go through an operator.)

On the rotary-dial phones then in use, dialing a nine took a lot longer than dialing a one, which tied up expensive switching equipment. So AT&T assigned “low dial pull” numbers to the markets with the most telephones and thus presumably the highest number of incoming long-distance calls. New York got 212, Chicago 312, LA 213, Detroit 313, Dallas 214, and so on.

2012 05 16 The world’s biodiversity is down 30 percent since the 1970s, according to a new report, with tropical species taking the biggest hit. And if humanity continues as it has been, the picture could get bleaker.
Humanity is outstripping the Earth’s resources by 50 percent — essentially using the resources of one and a half Earths every year, according to the 2012 Living Planet Report, produced by conservation agency the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Colby Loucks, the director of conservation sciences at WWF, compared humanity to bad houseguests.
“We’re emptying the fridge, we’re not really taking care of the lawn, we’re not weeding the flower beds and we’re certainly not taking out the garbage …

2012 05 12 The researchers observed increases in gray matter in brain areas such as the hypothalamus, amygdala, parietal lobe and prefrontal cortex. These regions are responsible for emotion, reasoning and judgment, the senses and reward behavior.
Compared with the less-enthusiastic moms, the awestruck moms were more likely to develop bigger mid-brains, and saw growth in key regions linked to maternal motivation, rewards and the regulation of emotions, Kim’s team found.
… Experts believe maternal behavior may be fostered by a pleasure system in the brain that involves areas such as the substantia nigra, which creates dopamine, a chemical messenger that interacts with certain brain cells and causes a “feel-good” high.
… But moms with an “insecure” attachment didn’t show the same brain response. When they saw their baby cry, part of the brain that is linked with pain, unfairness or disgust became activated.

2012 05 03 Authorities say a 25-year-old upstate New York man has been arrested after troopers clocked him driving his motorcycle at 170 mph on the Thruway.

That item brings back a memory: In 1967 I was due to teach at Colby in Maine come September. Hilary was due to deliver Brian in July. I took a job that summer in Outrider Motorcycles on 52nd off 12th. That same year a James Bond movie had been released that featured some model in leathers and helmet launching a rocket at James in his Aston Martin from a BSA 650. The cyclist then pulls over, pulls off her helmet, and all we Peeping Toms see long female hair cascade from under the helmet: the assassin is a she! and wow!

Neat. So BSA or the movie company, some publicist, parks the BSA used in the shoot with its ridiculous rocket launcher at Outrider! Outrider sold motorcycles, lots of brands, gear, wholesaled, shipped, and did repairs. One of the mechanics was an Hispanic who couldn’t resist the James Bond BSA. He borrowed it, boarded the West Side Highway, and opened ‘er up going north as far as the toll booth to the Bronx! He was arrested, grinning like a hyena. I loved that guy!

2012 05 03 Prosecutors have dropped charges against three Zimbabwean women accused of raping male hitch-hikers to collect semen for rituals, after DNA evidence exonerated them, their lawyer said Thursday.

I’m reminded of an Inge play from the 1950s: Picnic? William Holden in any event. Hunkaboy reports getting raped by several women. At first he thinks he’s seducing them, but no. They make him try harder, and harder.
But gathering semen for weird rituals, that’s news to me, but sounds ancient, and inevitable, doesn’t it?

FBI, CIA face questions about Petraeus affair
http://news.yahoo.com/fbi-cia-face-questions-petraeus-affair-094914841–politics.html
Why is anyone reading anyone else’s mail?
Not everyone is evil all the time, not quite everyone. In WWI some federal bureaucrat was asked to spy via the German’s mail. He said, “Gentlemen do not read each other’s mail.” The US got rid of him, formed the CIA, etc.
Of course the current thing is CIA etc descendants, long proved no gentlemen, and some angry women: clearly also not gentlemen.
And the hell with “gentleman” distinctions anyway: people should not read each other’s mail.
OK, now, some pissed off woman can invite people to read her mail, that’s different. But the minute her mail spills over into mail not hers the invitation cancels.
At Judgment I trust God won’t have to prove whether someone is or isn’t a gentleman before throwing them into hell.
Actually, I don’t want God to have to prove anything to anybody: unless the anybody can first prove that they’re capable of understanding proof: that would let out the CIA, the FBI, the US, and Yahoo readers.
Just throw everyone into hell, no proof is necessary, there’s no audience for it.

2012 11 13 I also want to say: the FBI was reading everyone’s mail: no one knows better than I: The FBI’s does not know how to read! not well. They misread my letters in order to put me in jail. Don’t trust any state bureaucracy’s reading ability when the state is bent on destroying some body or some thing.
Consider: God is supposed to have sent Jesus with a message for us, we killed him.
Now: is it up to us what the message was? Does God ever get to speak? If we’re misreading, miscopying, misrepresenting, can God offer testimony to that effect?
If Gulliver writes something and the Lilliputians get hold of it, is what Gulliver meant up to the Lilliputians? How kosher is it if the Lilliuptians won’t allow Gulliver to testify about his own writing?
The courtroom that wouldn’t permit evidence or testimony other than by feds should have been televised, on a comedy station.
Of course it was: on Betelgeuse. Everyone in heaven laughed and laughed.

I’ve been touting Ian McHarg’s Design with Nature since it was published in the mid-1960s. I’ve touted it online since the middle to late 1990s. And numerous times since I’ve pointed out: we didn’t learn its lessons! Building on the beach? Building on cliffs? Building without regard for physics, for science, for ecology? Natural limits find us again and again, won’t be too long before it’s for the last time.

2012 11 04 GOP Sen. Mourdock: ‘God Intended’ Pregnancies From Rape
http://news.yahoo.com/gop-senate-candidate-god-intended-pregnancies-rape-061057785–abc-news-politics.html
What business do senators have pronouncing on what God does, what God means, what God intends.
I make such statements, where God has spoken to me: or, where I interpret what God has said to me slightly further. At all times I take responsibility for the claim: you can listen, learn, change, or resist, jail me, murder me … Then we’ll see what God does about it: or not. I claim higher authority than those citing a church, or a priest, or a Bible …
But what business is it of a Sentor to inform us about God? to make us pursue or back away from a position on theological grounds. Should a senator get clearance from the Pope? Why, if he’s Protestant? Should he then get clearance from Billy Graham? from me?
They should keep their mouth shut, or explain their privilege.
Or put it this way: should Sen. Mourdock get ThosJefferson’s approval? Franklin’s? Adams? Lincoln’s?
No, wait, here: No, I was going to insert a pic: follow the link, look at this guy: fat jowls, looks like he’s eaten nothing but beef, lobster, butter for decades. Don’t let people with fat faces talk about God. Or: look at a pen full of pigs, then compare the emaciation of the guys in the dungeon: who do you think the Christian God was with?
The pagan gods were with the fat faces, that much we know.

See DiLorenzo’s book on Lincoln where he puts it baldly: the US attack on the Confederacy was specifically Lincoln and the Republican Party destroying states, lives, that resisted federal totalitarianism. Now Romney threatens to destroy the US economy.
Both parties do that no matter who we elect.
Don’t for one second think that I believe Obama is safe, non-toxic, but Romney’s direct threat is delicious: delicious, if, like me, you’ve given up on any possibility of civilization becoming viable.
It doesn’t matter what we do, it doesn’t matter what we don’t do, we missed the boat when we didn’t support Illich / pk / FLEX in 1970. But we’d already missed the boat many times before. We may have missed it and missed it before Jesus came along to show us how we were missing it.

2013 10 14 Madhya Pradesh stampede
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Madhya_Pradesh_stampede
Humans use intellect to try to imagine “causes”; humans use intellect and social pressure, economic pressure, authority to steer hypotheses away from imaginings, testings of those imaginings, that jeopardize the existing order: the pope cannot tolerate a Galileo anymore than the temple could tolerate a Jesus. But, some ideas brave the punishments and get banided about: this conclave, that university, the other bar discussion. One set of ideas that has actually made progress the last couple of decades concerns group behavior: what “causes” birds to flock, cattle to stampede, humans to block the exit in a building they believe to be burning. There’s no Stalin, no Napoleon, saying “OK, Now, on my command, everyone, behave as stupidly as possible: 1, 2, 3: Panic!” No, the stupidity is emergent. 100 people with IQs 90 to 110 more or less, act like 1,000,000 people with an IQ of 5.
Phenomena with good explanations can sometimes be influenced by intelligent discussion; but the usual response is for Stalin or Napeoleon to promise harder pushing, more coercion: crushing the smart, promoting the compliant: getting more budget for Macbeth’s henchmen.
Meantime, in science, these days, the ground understanding is that group behavior is established by individual decisions: it isn’t that the bird says, OK, now I’ll fly x degrees of angle behind this guy and you …
These things happen very fast, involving lots of numbers: but the fish school turns, the flock fees … the people stampede. The behavior has nothing to do with reason: though reason of this, that, and every sort will aid the explanation.
Meantime, remember this: don’t count the ecology out of the consideration: there’s a billion Indians, nature says that’s too many: I know, I know how to cause them to act like fools, shave a few dozen from those totals. If that doesn’t help, we’ll shave more than a few dozen: we’ll shave a few dozen million: maybe 50%, maybe, 90% … maybe 100%.
What “minds” were involved in the earth’s previous die-offs? What part did “accident” play? What part might mind have played in accident?
Theology is never too far away from any such question.

Prehistoric Brazil artifacts star in exhibit, spark debate
I love it: we invent a set of explanations, discover new evidence, new interpretation, make a new explanation, but first have to throw out all the old ones. Of course humans aren’t very good at throwing out old anything. For decades now, certainly since the 1980s, I’ve based much of what I’ve said on the belief that man has been in the Americas for a dozen thousand years: now we date paintings at much older! 30,000 years! Gotta revise everything.
Though there’s been reason to fence-straddle all along: man may have come across the Bering Straight on foot 12,000 or 13,000 years ago and also arrived by boat, again and again, canoeing along every beach. That much I had heard and have said.

2013 10 06 Supreme Court to decide whether affirmative action can be left up to state voters
http://news.yahoo.com/supreme-court-to-decide-whether-affirmative-action-can-be-left-up-to-state-voters-024502165.html
It’s so embarrassing: some centralized authority, some human institution, a church, a state, a university, a court pretends to revealed authority, a bible, a god’s word, the will of the people, the judgment of experts, a Constitution … says that the universe was created, it was created six thousand years ago, by one male creator god with a specific name, knowable to mankind … that the creator created men equal, and rational, and responsible … And then new claims accumulate, all incompatible with the foundation-faith. The universe may not have been created; accident, over time, lots of time, may be smarter, wiser than six inspired days, it wasn’t six thousand years ago, it was more like six billion — locally, the whole universe being double that, the cosmos being infinitely, unknowably vaster … But today the priests, the professors, the judges have to decide whether the Founding Fathers meant that mothers should be able to kill their unborn children or whether school lunches should be halal.
I say, Fuck em, don’t have any school: then you won’t have to worry about coercive lunch; don’t have any laws (except real ones), then mothers can kill their born children too … and the fathers can kill them!
Cheez, the article shows a pic, twelve judges. The WASPs have a black salted among them, I don’t know if there are any Jews, but christamity, there’s women! Three! What, is one of them oriental?! I’d like to shove that under Adams’ nose.
How many times does Abraham turn over in his grave when some Moses comes up with some new regulation? What difference does it make when Esau can show that it’s all fraud anyway?

2013 09 16 Roman Polanski sex abuse victim: ‘I hope he is well’
http://www.today.com/news/roman-polanski-sex-abuse-victim-i-hope-he-well-8C11167657
36 years ago Polanski had a deal to photograph a 13 year old, he did, and photographed her topless, and gave her a ‘lud, and some booze, and fucked her. My impression is that the experience was new to the 13 year old; same-old same-old to the scum-bucket movie maker.
Remember the scene with the little blond in Godfather? The mother is pimping her little girl to the powerful man, same-old same-old. Polanski had pretty little girls delivered to his clutches all the time.
Evil stories, evil deeds, we all know about some such; but how about this forgiveness routine!!!? very welcome, Tolstoyan Christian.
Back in my army days my buddy Phil went off into the wilds of Manhattan, came back having seen some Polish movies in some little theater in a Polish neighborhood, in Polish! no subtitles. One of them was Polanski’s thesis: Two Men and a Wardrobe. I sought it out. So I’ve known Polanski since before his first feature. For a while I saw all Polanski, took him seriously: since, I’ve seen some: like him, admire him, and think he’s an ass hole.
What do we do with artists who are ass holes? Same thing we do with any other kind of ass hole: live with them, work for them, give them awards, make them rich, or mug them, steal from them, kick them in the gutter …

Here I sit, politico-geographically in the “US.” My head’s been filled with blather about freedom, liberty, all my life. We in the US get it from England, Englishmen have been blabbing about liberty the longest among current kleptocrats, US history was trained by Brit history.
Freedom? If we were free, we wouldn’t have to cooperate when the thugs handcuff us. If we were free the woman could wear a veil or go naked, in a court or anywhere. I could hold my dick in my hand, either of us could wear a carrot or a celery stalk or a leek in our ass, or in some other orifice.
How dare schools compel us to attend, without one whit of evidence that the school knows what it’s talking about! The school must conform to social norms of wish and belief, not to any rationally sifted evidence, experience. How dare the school tell the girls they can or can’t twerk?
See, if Genghis Khan says, I have diarrhea, suck my ass clean or I’ll carve you into pony dung, I can do it, or get carved: unless I can quick carve Genghis first. Genghis doesn’t make me read John Stuart Mill first. Now that‘s freedom.

2013 08 21 One night as she lay down to sleep, a 60-year-old woman suddenly started having strange hallucinations. She told her doctors she heard music that seemed like it was playing from a radio at the back of her head.
http://news.yahoo.com/odd-hallucination-woman-hears-forgotten-songs-121658925.html
At 74 I hear music in my head much of the time. But I’m old enough not to be suckered by eidetic phenomena, and not to be suckered by experts and their half-ass theories either.
New I’ve got a new source for confusion too: my hearing aids pickup signals my ears wouldn’t. I’m sensitive to all sorts of electronics: walking around WalMart. I hear the cash register call for the manager, I hear the door guard system …
All the people without aids are oblivious.

2013 08 21 “The amount of resources that have gone into studying ‘what’ to eat is incredible, and years of research indicate that it doesn’t really matter, as long as overall calories are reduced,” Appelhans told LiveScience. “What does matter is ‘how’ to eat, as well as other things in lifestyle interventions, such as physical activity and supportive behaviors that help people stay on track [in the] long term.”
http://news.yahoo.com/losing-weight-lifestyle-changes-trump-diet-214144654.html
I used to say as a wise-guy in my twenties that it didn’t matter how much you ate or how much your drank so long as you ran a couple of miles a few times a week!
What I didn’t say out loud was that good health habits, regular exercise, for example, would make you not want to eat or drink the wrong things, to excess … But I was wrong in other ways too (however right I was in some part of the point): the damn drink, and more, is addictive!!! You can run run run but one day you forget to run but don’t forget to drink. Next thing you know you’re a drunk who doesn’t run, and who doesn’t eat well either. I came back from that brink, but I shouldn’t have gone to that brink in the first place.

2013 08 16 Voyager left solar system last year, new research shows
That would mean that Voyager actually reached interstellar space last summer when it detected a sudden drop in the number of particles coming from the sun and a corresponding rise in the number of galactic cosmic rays coming from interstellar space.

I love it: now we know that we don’t know (exactly) how big the “solar system” is. Semantics mixes with physics. Fine, that’s as good as we can do, finally we see it, some of us. Nominalism vs Realism.

church home
thanx abcnews

I had a friend in college whose father bought a church being moved under eminent domain for the construction of the NYS Thruway, 1956, ’57 … Edgar Levy, my friend David’s father, was an artist, a Jew, an atheist. He used the church for a dining room, had a wale oil lamp for a chandelier. But the Levy home was unusual before the church got added: there was for example a life size nude of David’s mother in the bathroom. She too was a known artist.
I loved the Levys till David turned on me. Moron called my 1970 internet naive. It’s the world that’s naive.

2013 08 15 Many of the kids Mighton tutored–originally, his charity was a tutoring service–started years behind grade level. His experience with such children led him to painstakingly build a system of instruction, grade by grade, that could transform a struggling math student into a strong one. In a controlled study, students in math classes using Mighton’s program progressed twice as fast as those in comparison classes taught using standard techniques.
http://news.yahoo.com/making-mathematical-mind-1-step-time-151400818.html
I gotta tell a favorite story:
Little girl loves her bicycle, she pedals all over her New Jersey town, all over the gothic space of the famous campus there. But when her math grades remain near the bottom of her class her father starts threatening her: Do better or I’ll take your bike away till you do do better. Well, the little girl does try, she’s just no good at it, she doesn’t think she should be punished to being stupid, she’s a cute girl in other ways. Anyway, time passes, the next report period approaches, she rides her bike what might be for a last time. She’s tearing up so badly she can’t see. She stops in a park, sits on a bench, and lets it out. the little girl is bawling.
What’s the matter, little girl, asks a kindly old gentleman from a nearby bench. She tells him.
He says, Meet me here in the park Monday afternoons, I’ll see if I can help.
Well, her report sucks, the father lowers the boom, the girls begs for one more report period: last chance. She goes from a D to a B+, almost over night. Then A … Then, then … the teachers don’t know what to give her: they can’t keep up with her.
Little Girl, what happened?
And she tells of meeting this nice old man in a park, right there in Princeton NJ. He had an accent, and a funny mustache, and funny hair, but he helped her with her math.
Urban legend? who knows, tear and compare: any facts in there?

2013 08 13 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee judge’s decision to change a baby’s first name from Messiah to Martin is drawing strong reactions from people who believe the judge overstepped her powers and those who think parents’ creativity should have some limits.

So, what do we support? Freedom? or Authority?
I love the definition of rights: whatever the neighbors will allow.
Raymond Smullyan once tried a joke on me: if an irresistible force meets an unmovable object … Hold it, I said: maybe you can imagine an irresistible force and maybe also imagine an unmovable object; but not in the same story: they’re incompatible. I say neither one nor the other, or at least one or the other, but not both. Renders language meaningless.
I think those were Raymond’s own points. In any case that day he had nothing further to say. I was a bad audience? Too smart to talk to? Raymond usually talking anyway, a great talker, a piss poor listener.

2013 08 13 BOSTON (Reuters) – A former hospital technician infected with hepatitis pleaded guilty to stealing syringes filled with painkiller, injecting himself with the drug, refilling the dirty needles with saline solution and leaving them for hospital use, causing an outbreak of the disease in a New Hampshire hospital.

And yesterday there was a story about some doctor billing Medicare for millions in inappropriate chemotherapies.
But the memory it triggers that I want to share concerns the anesthesiologist who became addicted to ether. The surgeon would instruct that x quantity of ether be administered to the peron under the knife, the nurse would take the ether herself. The doctor would be cutting, the patient was going nuts, the doctor would tell the nurse, so much more ether. She’d give it to herself. …
Of course hospitals get abused: they’re places where experts can overdose at their own self-prescription on money!
Note that the abusers are licensed by the kleptocracy, related to how much school they’ve consumed. New money goes where old money has already be wasted.

2013 08 10 Who’s Responsible?
Switzerland is a glamorous playground of the rich and famous, filled with glitterati from princes to movie stars. It’s also a land with a sometimes uneasy relationship with foreigners — especially when they aren’t white.

Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey says she ran into Swiss racism when a clerk at Trois Pommes, a pricey Zurich boutique, refused to show her a $38,000 handbag, telling one of the world’s richest women that she wouldn’t be able to afford it. Winfrey earned $77 million in the year ending in June, according to Forbes magazine.
http://news.yahoo.com/swiss-apologize-encounter-oprah-calls-racist-171036360.html

I hope I can comment intelligibly on some of that. One point:
Does one dumb clerk equal a racist nation?
No! and Yes! See my writing on Edges. and on Borders.
One Nazi doesn’t make a nation of nazis, but at some point the population growth of nazis does make a nation of nazis.
But I also gotta relate this to my favorite story of neglected privilege from my college days.

2013 08 05 A woman who works with rescue dogs was reunited with her own dog more than a month after it ran off after being struck by a car.
A caller told Paula Heckathorn a dog had been hanging around his house.

In 1967, 68 my dog would wander off, come home days later, starving, filthy, beat up. One place Angus routinely made his second home was a house full of kids: the mother was a waitress at The Silent Woman, Angus got top grade steak leftovers regularly; at our house there was just Hilary and bk an infant, then a baby. But today I’m remembering the time the phone rang and it was somebody calling the number on his collar: and they were twenty miles away! Bitch in heat: Angus followed her scent, had no scent to retrace by. We had food for him, companionship, affection; but we sure didn’t have no pussy. Not dog pussy, not dog pussy in heat.

2013 07 23 Bizarre ‘Schrodinger’s Cat’ comes alive in new experiments, http://www.nbcnews.com/science/bizarre-schrodingers-cat-comes-alive-new-experiments-6C10713858
The strangeness of the world of the very small that allows a particle to be in two states at once may extend to larger scales, two new studies reveal. If the research proves true, that would bolster the validity of a thought experiment suggesting that a cat can be both alive and dead at the same time.
The idea, called Schrödinger’s Cat after the physicist Erwin Schrödinger, who proposed it in 1935, goes like this: Put a cat in a box with a vial of poison gas. The vial opens when a tiny piece of radioactive metal emits an alpha particle (the nucleus of a helium atom) as it decays. Emitting an alpha particle is a quantum-mechanical process, which means that whether it happens in any given stretch of time is basically random.
Quantum mechanics says that it’s impossible to know whether the radioactive decay has happened (and the cat is dead) unless one measures it — that is, unless the alpha particle interacts with the environment in some way that an observer can see. Until that happens, the alpha particle can be thought of as being emitted and not emitted at the same time. The cat is both dead and alive, a state called superposition.
Opening the box is a measurement — one sees the effect of an alpha particle as the dead cat, or the absence of an alpha particle as a live one.
pk will comment in a post on Observing Mathematics.

pk remembers one night in junior year, a paper due on a book I hadn’t begun word one of, let alone begun to read the damn book the paper was on (something eighteenth-century, not my favorite period, when lo and behold, there’s a knock at my door, and John, the friend who became my greatest skiing and fishing buddy in the following decade, presents me with a strange looking very old bottle: Pernod Brothers, Paris 1888, absinth!! John’s father was the super of a building on 5th Avenue, somebody had died, leaving his wine cellar to the super. John, invited to sort, found an unopened case of absinth!
We eased the cork, the apartment instantly reeled drunk with the stench of liquorish, and something else, some several other wicked things else. I poured one drop into a highball glass of water. I watched the liquor propagate tentacles of Toulouse Lautrec green.

Degas, The Absinthe Drinker
thanx artexperts

A few more drops, a sip, and I was hallucinating.
John got nervous and poured the rest of this bottle, which I never doubted he could have auctioned for thousands, down the sink. The drain gurgled like with Drano.
I wrote my hallucination, the prof accepted it, not one shred of the subject in evidence.

I dup this among my college stories, editing it, augmenting it there.

2013 07 21 Poor quality and bad management: India ignored warnings in free meal program
http://news.yahoo.com/poor-quality-bad-management-india-ignored-warnings-free-064901169.html
You know what I love about the kleptocracy’s internet, a degradation pagiarized from Illich and me? It’s less parochial than the news systems we’ve long been familiar with.
“GANDAMAN, India/NEW DELHI (Reuters) – The village school in India where 23 children died by poisoning last week had been providing lunch under a government-sponsored scheme without checks or monitoring by local officials to see if the food was stored carefully or cooked properly.”
With parochial news one might think that only one’s own church, one’s own state, one’s own king, teacher, parents, friends were the venal, stupid, corrupt, inept ones. No, it’s world-wide.

2013 07 14 California is making pot legal under some circumstances. Now some guy founds a company that extracts high quality hash oil and distributes that. Today’s article that I’m responding to – http://news.yahoo.com/legal-pot-prompts-hash-134557001.html
– worries that some CA legal hash oil might get exported from CA and sold on somewhere else’s black market.
What does pk think?
anarchist thoughts of course: in this specific context:
Not terribly long ago, in the US, when legitimate citizens, that is, white, Christian kleptocrats, wanted to terrorize illegitimate citizens, that is, “black” people, n-s, exslaves … anarchists, speakers of languages other than English, or of English with the wrong side of the tracks accent, they marched on their intended victim’s house, shack, cabin, hovel, putting their children in front, singing hymns. At some point the victim would be provoked sufficienty to yell, “Get the hell off my patch.” Ah! the n- has cursed in front of the Christian children! Now the Christians can lynch him, castrate him, burn his everything to the ground, go back to the church and brag, the sheriff being one of the hood wearers.

In other words, I don’t trust the state to administer anything honestly, competently, or intelligently.
But: states exist no matter what I think. The public has been much on the side of the state for the last half-dozen centuries: any port in a storm from too much Church!
St. Ivan Illich accepted states, accepted hierarchies, but tried to limit them, tried to mock them. Ivan Illich recommended groups accepting rule by an authority so long as there were no more than three rules!

If the state regulates traffic, OK, now it gets two more things to regulate. If the state regulates your income, with taxation, OK, that leaves it one more thing to regulate. If the state regulates substances, there can only be three substances it regulates …

Where the state tries to regulate everything, which all states always wind up doing, the public should at least agitate for the state to regulate only three things, preferably by only three rules, one of which ought to be absurd, wasted: wear a yellow hat on Wednesday (Illich’s own example uttered at CIDOC).
Thus, one of the three rules should be wasted. Ideally the state gets only two rules.

When the state wants to regulate traffic, it’s bad enough. When the state says it’s to protect the children: remember: the lynchers lynched their victim to protect the children.
Watch out when the state exports children to Iraq so it can protect them in Baghdad … recognize the pattern.

2013 07 06 Marion Bartoli appears to be incredibly intelligent

Jan and I watch a lot of tennis together. Today’s coverage [congratulations Bartoli, I was rooting for Lisiki, but you sure earned it] announced that Marion’s IQ is 175. Jan said she bet mine was “over 200.”
At least, I would think: except I said, that I doubt it’s been measured to be anything like that: meaning, I don’t trust the ability of the schools, the shrinks, society’s institutions to recognize, let alone measure, intelligence.

2013 07 06 If the thought of spiders makes your skin crawl, you might find it reassuring that the chances of being bitten by a spider are smaller than you imagine, recent research shows.
http://news.yahoo.com/surprising-cause-most-spider-bites-163944651.html
I think I was bitten by a spider: once. I was camped in the Catskills, writing my Comet novel, sleeping in a down bag in a two-man alpine tent. The tent was full of spiders, my sleeping bag hosted spiders coming and going. I ignored them: but one time I rolled over, and … ouch!
Could it have been a flea? Maybe, but the only insects I saw in my tent were my dozens of spiders. I’d regarded them (and still do) as my protectors.
PS I once put my eye ball close up by a spider on a bald cypress trunk (from a canoe on Little Charlie Bowlegs Creek, in the cypress swamp), poked it to look at its belly: Jeez, a black widow!

Notice, if the spic disobeys the law, the n-, the chink, the spic can be sentenced to hard labor for 10,000 years; if the state violates its constitutions, if the free speech speech makers are caught silencing, sabotaging free speech, they can apologize: and keep right on in power.
There’s never been a state that could survive five minutes if the centralizers had to obey their own “laws.”

2013 05 20 Pavlovian Bee Bombs
Nikola Kezic, an expert on the behavior of honeybees, sat quietly together with a group of young researchers on a recent day in a large net tent filled with the buzzing insects on a grass field lined with acacia trees. The professor at Zagreb University outlined the idea for the experiment: Bees have a perfect sense of smell that can quickly detect the scent of the explosives. They are being trained to identify their food with the scent of TNT.
http://news.yahoo.com/honeybees-trained-croatia-land-mines-102000875.html
Pavlov made the dogs associate food with the ringing of a bell. Pavlov offered food, the dogs salivated; Pavlov offered food and rang a bell, the dogs salivated; Pavlov rang the bell without the food: the dogs salivated. Now this guy has got the bees salivating for land mines.
My favorite part of the Pavlov story though, K. has already long reported, citing Paul Quinnett: one dog didn’t like the lab: the Pavolov team tried to put the dog on the table, to ring the bell, etc. And the dog bit the scientists.
Good dog.

2013 05 20 Combat Stress: Play the drums. http://health.usnews.com/health-news/articles/2012/10/29/forget-yoga-try-one-of-these-quirky-ways-to-de-stress
Friedman was 12 years old, growing up in Jamaica, and picked on daily by his peers. “I would go home and play my drums, and the anger, humiliation, and stress would evaporate,” he says. Years later, after completing a degree in counseling psychology, he launched a drumming program at a local spa, and ultimately opened a company designed to reduce stress through drumming. He recalls a businessman who jumped out of his chair and began leaping around the room. For the first time in 40 years, the man said, his chronic back pain had disappeared. “I’ve found that drumming allows you to have fun, stay in the present moment, and release stress—consciously and unconsciously,” Friedman says. “It allows us to reach internalized emotions that need to come out.”
I’m recalling a story told me by my college freshman friend David, alto sax, jazz fiend: He told of a drummer he’d known in high school who taped a picture of his mother to the head of his snare drum. So: he could vent his rage on his mother: hourly, daily, weekly …

2013 05 14 Angelina Jolie says she had a double mastectomy:
http://news.yahoo.com/angelina-jolie-says-she-had-double-mastectomy-061422044.html
Geez, a sex symbol among mammals looses her mammaries: chooses to lose! Ouch, that’s like thinking of Hercules as a gelding.

I want to share an experience I have with mastectomy (a singleton: just one was bad enought!):

My dear Catherine died in 2004 at age 96. Her old neighbor, Ann, died last year at 99 and 51 weeks.

Soon after Catherine’s death Ann was telling me about her mastectomy. I was never attracted to Ann, I didn’t like or respect Ann. But I was also alone, and horny, and have always loved all women, in the abstract, and in the concrete. Anyway, I questioned Ann about what that meant, mastectomy: do they cut the fleshy flesh and leave the nipple? What the hell is it exactly that they do?
Ann yanked up her blouse, pulled away the one relevant side of her bra, and there was a flat chest, flatter than the chest of a boy: a flat with no features! No nipple, just a scar!

I tell you, it was weird. 74 now, 64ish then: you’d think you knew every human stretch of skin: you know what a back looks like, a front, a thigh, inside, outside, a belly, a pubis, a chest, a breast, a boob … And then here’s this flat expanse: a scar, skin. What’s that! shudder.

2013 05 03 This is the end: Team of experts say humanity faces extinction
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/end-team-experts-says-humanity-faces-extinction-233025693.html

A team of mathematicians, philosophers and scientists at Oxford University’s Future of Humanity Institute say there is ever-increasing evidence that the human race’s reliance on technology could, in fact, lead to its demise.
The group has a forthcoming paper entitled “Existential Risk Prevention as Global Priority,” arguing that we face a real risk to our own existence. And not a slow demise in some distant, theoretical future. The end could come as soon as the next century.

pk asks how come the team didn’t point out that universities ganging up against intelligence can’t help. Technology is a danger; centralized authority with no conscience is a fatality that needn’t have waited till May 20013 to get noticed.

2013 02 20 Now Italian and American Catholics don’t want the cardinal tainted by pedophile coverups present in the Vatican to vote for a new pope. As thought there were one bad apple! only one! As though crucifying Jesus left the other rabbis innocent, holy.

2013 02 19 “Unlike bills that explicitly require intelligent design and religious curriculums to be taught in schools, academic freedom bills simply permit teachers, schools, and students to explore alternative theories without repercussions. Sounds harmless, right?”

No, no: the harm lies in having any state-run, any monopoly-run school system at all. The crime lies in obliging anyone to attend a class, it doesn’t matter what creed is taught. You go into the market, there’s a map overhead: rice, aisle 3, soup aisle 6 … you don’t want a quota that you have to buy three pounds of Oscar Meyer bacon, or that you must buy three twelve-packs of Coke. Just map the resources, and mind your own business.

Adorations, studies should be voluntary. If we’re too stupid to learn what will benefit us, so what? Only the parasitic state has to intervene to keep the host alive: alive but crippled, addicted to interference.

2013 02 03 Bravo, Cameron Russell!

While explaining that she often gets asked how one becomes a model, Russell says, “….The real way I became a model is I won a genetic lottery and I became the recipient of a legacy. Saying you want to be a model when you grow up is akin to saying you want to win the Powerball when you grow up. It’s awesome and it’s out of your control and it’s not a career path.”

While showing photos of her in both fashion spreads juxtaposed against photos of her in real life, Russell says, “These pictures are not pictures of me, they’re constructions,” says Russell. “They’re constructions by professionals — hairstylists, make up artists, photographers stylists and all of their assistants and pre-production and post-production and they build this. That’s not me.”

But the most insightful part of her talk is when Russel confesses: “I am insecure. Because I have to think about what I look like every day. If you ever are wondering, ‘If I have thinner thighs and shinier hair will I be happier?’ you just need to meet a group of models because they have the thinnest thighs and the shiniest hair and the coolest clothes and they’re the most physically insecure women on the planet.”

2013 02 02 Beyonce is accused of lip-synching at the inauguration. Now apparently she admits it.

Performers have been lip-synching for a long time, why is she being treated as though she invented it? or as though it were her idea?
In 1982 I met (and moved in with) a woman who had been a “singer” on the Perry Como TV show. She told me that she and another model stood next to Perry, he pretended to be singing to them, two beautiful girls, they pretended to be singing with him. The real singers where hidden behind the curtain.

The blond on the left could well be my Jeano. Or Jeano is behind Perry.
Or Jeano wasn’t in this number.

Of course it was illusion, concocted. What else is new?

2013 02 02 And it offers insight into a world of backyard dentistry that caters to those in the country illegally, the uninsured and others who can’t find affordable dental care.

Delao admits he skirted the law, but isn’t remorseful. “Jesus Christ didn’t need or didn’t have a license,” Jose Delao told Yahoo News during a jailhouse interview. “People hurt and they needed it. People didn’t have enough money to visit the regular dentist.”

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/underground-dentist-not-remorseful-illegal-practice-133957201.html
I love it. Understand: I’m the guy who founded the Free Learning Exchange, in 1970, dedicated among other things to skirting the state’s monopoly on licensing: free information, accepted, practiced by the pubic, would make licensing monopolies impossible. Anyone should be able to chose which expert they hire, not be forced to hire only among the kosher, the orthodox. You should be able to go to your neighbor for Spanish lessons, not the public’s school Spanish teacher; you should be able to hire the midwife, or the witch, to help deliver your baby. Of course you should be able to hire the dentist you chose, not ask to see his membership in some monopolistic club.

I joined the track team because my friends agreed that we’d all join. I chose the event that I believed would be easiest for me, take the least effort: I went out for the mile. There was a good miler in the class ahead of me, Pete. I would never catch him not without hard work. But I had no competition from others in my class. I’d stroll four laps, come in third, or sometimes second, get my letter, go smoke a cigarette, fine.
Mostly the coach ignored me. But one day he asked me a favor: the blind kid wanted to run: would I kind of take it easy around the track, scuffing cinders as I went so the blind kid could follow my path?
Sure.

I ran, he ran behind me. Scuffle, shuffle, crunch. Oh, I’m so glad to remember that!

2013 01 28 Though there’s no scientific evidence that redheads deserve their reputation for having fiery temperaments, some recent reports suggest having red hair is associated with a number of health issues. A study from the journal Nature found that the pigment pheomelanin, which is responsible for red hair, may also make redheads even more susceptible to melanoma than fair-skinned blondes, according to the Los Angeles Times.
And a widely reported study from the Journal of the American Dentistry Association found that redheads are more sensitive to pain and require extra anesthesia during surgery, according to ABC News.
http://news.yahoo.com/carrying-redhead-gene-180445953.html

My mother was a red head. I had an auburn beard. Boy, did men go crazy for Mom’s looks. Mom herself regarded her red hair as a curse. Literally, she told my sister that red heads were bleeders, had ghastly menstruations. Me? What do I know.

Theory has it, intelligent theory, scientific theory, tht while we naturall avoid incest, don’t copulate without our parents, or siblings, or near-cousins, we do go gaga over whover looks like they belonged in the same nest with us. Blondie’s parents adopt Black Sambo, Black Sambo will go boing for Blondies; though not his own Blondie.

I loved my mom as a child, as a kid, couldn’t be affectionate enough. I painfully remember Mom throwing me out of bed one morning when I’d been eagerly hugging her. Suddenly I was on the floor, my mother clutching her breast and saying I’d hurt her. Since then I’ve believed that I must have shown signs of being too attracted. Violent reject.

By the seventh grade I was smitten by a redhead in the neighborhood: Arlene. Why? She was a skinny thing, undeveloped, nasty of disposition: I think she specifically disliked me. Arlene and Dorothy were best friends. Dorothy and I were friends. Dorothy loved my friend Horace, recently reduced “Joe” by his own preference. Dorothy wanted Joe’s dick. Joe didn’t want anything to do with Dorothy, though Joe joined me in moaning over Arlene.
Dorothy told me that she and Arlene would converse: “Oh Dorothy,” Arlene would moan, “I think I’m gonna fuck any minute.”

Cheez: then why didn’t she put herself in front of me? I was drooling from blocks away.
Dorothy invited Joe and me to a birthday party. Turned out she’d told her parents she wanted a party to get them out of the house. She wanted only one friend over for her birthday: Joe. She offered herself to Joe, Joe declined. I said, “Well, take me.” Dorothy let me suck on her tits. Dirty, she hadn’t showered. Joe still wasn’t interested. Dorothy reached into my pants and pinched my scrotum. Uh oh. I though I was going to die. I’d already found something odd about my body the morning I leapt onto my bicycle and crunched my descending nuts on the bicycle bar. There they were again.
Of course I didn’t then know what they were, boys don’t know anything about testes, about vulnerability: about natures way to telling you: “Be Careful!

OK coverage, read Cecil, my response runs oblique:
I’m reminded of a novel by Stanislaw Lem, one of the greatest literary and philosophical geniuses of the last century. Lem subscribes to the view that sentience looks for the easy path. Humans look for slaves, for machines, to do their work, want to feed the slaves as little as possible, bathe in gravy themselves. Hence, states commandeer resources with promises of slave bureaucracies, the bureaucracy spends ever more of the resources on ways to perform as few services as possible while investing heavily in illusions of profound service. The novel imagines a planet run by AIs which have learned that they don’t have to do anything so long as they feed humans with hallucinogens which delude them that they’re lolling in luxury.
I’ll never forget the cartoons for the Mad issue where Manduck the Magician dreams of being served champagne by decolltage blonds: actually he and Lothar are comatose from cheap hooch in a garbage dump.

2012 12 18 People May Be Stingier Than Thought
In the classic economic experiment called the public goods game, people are given some money, say $10, and have the option of putting some of it into a “public fund.” Whatever they put into the pot gets multiplied and shared amongst all the players, including themselves, though depending on the multiplier, they wind up with less money than they started with. The most economically “rational” behavior in this instance would be to put zero dollars into the public fund, but in studies, people consistently put in some of their own money, leaving themselves worse off.
http://news.yahoo.com/people-may-stingier-thought-230110716.html
“Worse off”: anticipating a conclusion before the evidence is complete, before all hypotheses have been probed.
If you have $10, and the public kitty has $0, and you put in $0, public action can’t give you your own back, could give you money obtained elsewise. Still, that doesn’t prove you better off: Maybe you’d be best off if everyone put $1 in, or $5. Maybe you’d be best off if you put $0 but everyone else put $5, then the public fund discovered a new technology, a new soul, a new something that everyone benefited from, or would if the public fund had the capital.
I’m talking about synergy: not participating in the possibility of synergy does not prove synergy impossible. The prose cooks the books.
In my case: Ivan Illich proposed digital cybernetic data libraries to fascilitate freedom (and to dull the imperial impact of the First World on the Third World): 1970. I said I’d do it, give me the resources and I’ll give you an internet: all experts would have to give up some privileges in order to create a “Christian” “family” of a species. You have $10, the US takes $5. Don’t give the US $5; give me $1, and we could all be free: living forever instead of going over the edge within the next millennium or two (or decade or two). In other words, God, Jesus, Illich, and I offered life, for $1. We chose to give $5 to the US, now we’ll all die. Are we really better off having been selfish and stupid?
The Nazis can prove that death is better than life, I don’t buy it.

And the other day there was a report that a Chinese Nobel Prize winning writer was sticking up for censorship!
The US practices censorship, with a heavy hand, but hypocritically lauds liberty. Wouldn’t it be nice if China praised totalitarianism while actually practicing freedom?
But I fear freedom is just a word in a world with a billion Indians, a billion or so Chinese, and American multi-billionaires. People by the hundred might survive, not people by the billion.

2012 12 07 Bloody Old Salt
Despite history, a brand new review of several studies from the past few decades related to blood pressure and salt intake suggests Kempner wasn’t right—that salt might not have as much of an effect on blood pressure and heart health as suspected.

Some expert makes a mistake, so what? The comedy comes when all the ignoramuses follow the mistake to god only knows what damage, human experience bumping around in the dark like an amoeba.
All my life I’ve heard that salt is bad. The people telling me have no competence let alone interest in understanding my response: too much salt may kill, slowly; too little salt can kill over night.
I’ll expand this in a post.

2012 12 03 Teen allegedly stabbed man who ate his food
We’d put food in the puppy’s dish, then reach in to add more, the pup would growl. Growing up the poor dog would still growl. I remember seeing fellow students growl if anyone came near their plate, I’ve felt the same way. It’s nice when a news item reminds us where we come from. Shoeless & Homeless
Asked about the $100 all-weather boots Officer Larry DePrimo gave him on Nov. 14, Hillman says he’s hidden them because “they are worth a lot of money.”
He says he’s grateful for the gift, but he wants “a piece of the pie” because the photo was posted online “without permission.”
Cop had gotten beaucoup kudoes for giving shoes to homeless man: Reminds me of the Mark Twain story where do-gooders get it in the neck.

2012 12 01 “Sasquatch nuclear DNA is incredibly novel and not at all what we had expected,” lead scientist Dr. Melba S. Ketchum said in the article. “While it has human nuclear DNA within its genome, there are also distinctly non-human, non-archaic hominin, and non-ape sequences. We describe it as a mosaic of human and novel non-human sequence. Further study is needed and is ongoing to better characterize and understand Sasquatch nuclear DNA.”

The Catholic church has increasingly been accused of attempting to conceal repeated incidents of priests sexually molesting children. While more and more people are accepting the likelihood that the church has been harboring pedophiles, few people are willing to believe that the sexual molestation of children is a fundamental part of church doctrine. In his new book, Original Sin: Ritual Child Rape & The Church, Dr. DCA Hillman strikes at the foundation of Christianity, providing evidence that early priests ritually sodomized young boys during their catechism.

I read an historical novel, probably by Gary Jennings, full of ritual male rape by priests, but I think the deity was Saturn, not Jesus. And I’ve seen Indian movies where priests, non-JudeoChristian, ritually gang rape a female virgin, with the parents consent and connivance.

2012 11 19 Einstein’s brain was removed from his skull and photographed from different angles before it was sectioned into 240 blocks — all to advance the sciences he loved so dearly. Many of the photographs, however, were lost or misplaced over the decades. Now analysis of 14 recently resurfaced photos reveals what we’ve suspected all along: Einstein’s physical brain, says Doyle Rice at USA Today, “was better than yours.”

The journalists are making a claim about Einstein’s brain, fine; except that they’re making a claim about Einstein’s brain as compared to my brain! and to your brain! They took Einstein’s brain from his skull, photographed it, cut it up, mapped it. My brain is in my skull, they haven’t photographed it. Have they photographed yours? cut it up?
No? Then how can they compare them? in an article that talks about science?!?!

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

“Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood,” he said.

Sleepwalk into Disaster

“Without an effective plan to prepare for the risks from climate change the country may sleepwalk into disaster,” said John Krebs, chairman of a group that advises Britain’s government on adapting to climate change.

I like that phrase: right on.

pastiche from LiveScience

Theft may be in our genes. After all, even monkeys do it. Capuchin monkeys use predator alarm calls to warn fellow monkeys to scatter and avoid threats. But some will make fake calls, and then steal food left by those that scattered.

People who espouse high moral standards are among the worst cheats, studies have shown. The worst cheaters tend to be those with high morals who also, in some twisted way, consider cheating to be an ethically justifiable behavior in certain situations.

Cheating on spouses by celebrities and politicians thought to be moral leaders has become rampant. The behavior has a simple explanation, experts say: Guys are wired to want sex, a lot, and are more likely than gals to cheat. The behavior may be particularly likely for men with power.

Jardine, who has studied why people cling to bad habits, cites these reasons:

— Innate human defiance
— Need for social acceptance
— Inability to truly understand the nature of risk
— Individualistic view of the world and the ability to rationalize unhealthy habits
— Genetic predisposition to addiction

Bullying

… bullying is not just child’s play. One study found that almost 30 percent of U.S. office workers experience bullying by bosses or coworkers, from withholding of information critical to getting the job done to insulting rumors and other purposeful humiliation. And once it starts, it tends to get worse.

“Bullying, by definition, is escalatory. This is one of the reasons it’s so difficult to prevent it, because it usually starts in really small ways,” says Sarah Tracy, director of the Project for Wellness and Work-Life at Arizona State University.

Experts say to combat workplace bullies, respond rationally, specifically, and consistently.

Why do we do it? To gain status and power, psychologists say. And for some, it may be hard to resist the behavior. Researchers have seen bullying behavior in monkeys and speculate that the behavior may stretch way back in our evolutionary tree.

pk again: I must develop a module on bullying, long overdue: I’ve been subject to bullying ever since I went independent: in the 60s, ratified in the 70s, 80s … My getting bullied by the staff of the Sbring Library for example. Initially, they tried to worship me. When I resisted, advised at least pretend equality, they demoted me to scape goat: point is, they were united, I was solo, with no defenders, especially not the librarian.

She had to protect her majorities! her paid workers, those who had worked there a month or more.

Gambling

A study published in the journal Neuron last year found that almost winning activates win-related circuitry within the brain and enhances the motivation to gamble. “Gamblers often interpret near-misses as special events, which encourage them to continue to gamble,” said Luke Clark of the University of Cambridge. “Our findings show that the brain responds to near-misses as if a win has been delivered, even though the result is technically a loss.”

Organized Tennis

2012 01 22 Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych was booed when he refused the traditional handshake after beating Nicolas Almagro in four sets.

Tennis has always been associated with over-organized nation states: the Norman French, the Norman English … Henry VIII. There’s a movie with Freud playing tennis: indoors, the kind of tennis with an indoor roof as part of the game. Shakespeare uses tennis as a vehicle for Henry V’s French cousins to insult him in his English court.

Tennis players the last few decades can make a lot of money, obscene amounts of money, playing in the major tournaments. One thing is required of them though, one thing other than being good at it: they have to foreswear their individuality. They have to respect the call of the umpire. Like boxers. If John L is standing and his opponent is horizontal, out cold, and the referee declares the conked guy the winner, then by god, that’s whose tickets the bookies must pay. Clay didn’t altogether go along with it, MacEnroe didn’t go quietly, a gentleman … But the sport did.

Berdych thought Almagro hit him with a ball deliberately. Maybe he did, I wasn’t there. Instant replay should be used. If Almagro is judged, fairly, internationally, not just by the tennis organizations, to have tried to hit Berdych with the ball, the Berdych should be apologized to. All the tennis players who’ve been banished should be resurrected. A portion of Mac’s money, and Borg’s, and Fed’s, and Sampras’ … should be reapportioned.

But tennis could never be an anarchist sport. The moment there’s grass involved, and rules, and lines, and paint … Then Ily Nastasi has to knuckle under, there can be no Muhammed Ali. John L has to stand there and be cheated. If he wants the millions.

Fat actor Alex Baldwin says he gave up sugar. It’s about time. Some fat people can be funny, but him?!

Controversy about the “leap second” is in the news. Profound stuff. We conceived of time thanks to our observing regularies in our experience: women could hardly fail to notice their menstrual cycles, then women noticed a relationship their menstrual cycles and the phases of the moon. Thus time was invented, thus humans became “intelligent.” So: we modeled our “time” on our modeling of the universe. We invented clocks, regularities: months, years, days, hours … Experience reveals patterns.

But the patterns aren’t perfect. The next thing we know the priests calculate Easter while snow is on the ground. Minor flaws add up to major disasters over “time.” We insert leap years, now leap seconds.

The hell with experience some are saying. Don’t let the solar system confuse our time; use atomic clocks, fllow them, ignore the sun, and the earth, and the moon.

Gay parents “tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents,” said Abbie Goldberg, a psychologist at Clark University in Massachusetts who researches gay and lesbian parenting. Gays and lesbians rarely become parents by accident, compared with an almost 50 percent accidental pregnancy rate among heterosexuals, Goldberg said. “That translates to greater commitment on average and more involvement.”

Terrence Sejnowski, a computational neuroscientist at the Salk Institute, extols the discovery that the conscious, deliberative mind is not the author of important decisions such as what work people do and who they marry. Instead, he writes, “an ancient brain system called the basal ganglia, brain circuits that consciousness cannot access,” pull the strings.

Running on the neurochemical dopamine, they predict how rewarding a choice will be – if I pick this apartment, how happy will I be? – “evaluate the current state of the entire cortex and inform the brain about the best course of action,” explains Sejnowski. Only later do people construct an explanation of their choices, he said in an interview, convincing themselves incorrectly that volition and logic were responsible.

New Year Brings New Attacks on Evolution in Schools

I keep repeating: science and the state are incompatible. Science and human nature are at odds. Religion starts with its conclusions. So do scientists: with the difference that they are supposed to catch themselves at it and correct themselves.

Ponder this quote from the above article carefully: The theory of evolution has become a flashpoint for religious conservatives, many of whom argue that the idea of life evolving over billions of years clashes with Biblical beliefs. Republican State Rep. Gary Hopper, who with his Republican district mate John Burt introduced HB 1457, told the Concord Monitor that the theory of evolution teaches students that life is nothing but an accident.

“I want to introduce children to the idea that they have a purpose for being here,” Hopper told the newspaper.

See? Start with your conclusions, then repress conflicting evidence, conflicting interpretation.

It’s just common sense!

Common to be wrong headed. We’ll never fix it, that would take honesty, humility.

The findings suggest that many young adults who binge drink do so because their romantic partner binge drinks, said the team at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

http://news.yahoo.com/couples-binge-drinking-routine-170212839.html

Anton and I met freshman week and remained friends for decades, still keep somewhat in touch. Many a time we did this and that together, our wives were pregnant together, we studied the same subjects, ate together in restaurants, went to the theater together. Many a time at a party I’d get drunk and get wheeled out, he would get drunk and get wheeled out … In 1979 or so I stopped drinking. Anton came to visit. I offered him a scotch. Sure. How did he want it? He’d have it the same way I was having mine. I’m not drinking I said, I’m having a ginger ale. Oh, then I’ll have a giner ale too.

And I realized: ! How many friends had I had over the decades who’d gotten drunk because I’d gotten drunk? How many times might they have remained sober had I remained sober? How badly did my bad habits damage other people? Thank goodness at least that part stopped thirty-odd years ago. But of course I was damaged by my friends, by my parents, by our culture: I didn’t learn bad habits all by myself.

Are the “books” fake?

I don’t know whether we could handle or read those books arrayed behind the lectern or not. They sure look fake don’t they? Perfectly erect? Perfectly lined up? When was the last time one of those books was used? When a press conference is called does everyone studying in the room have to stop reading, put the book back, and allow the cosmetics crew to fuss with the alignment?

The Jews once upon a time based their authority on their oral traditions, just like many another people. But then they based their authority on a book!. Along came the Christians and did ditto. Along came the scholars, pointed out errors, inconsistencies: and along came the garden variety Christians and ignored when they couldn’t silence the scholars. That book isn’t to be read! That book isn’t to be thought about! That book is there to make everybody obey! Not God, but us.

Also, females showed more consistent empathy than males, Mason said. All six females freed their trapped partner; 17 of the 24 males did so. This confirms other studies that show females demonstrating more pro-social behavior than males, she said.

Rats’ bad rap: Study shows them nice, not naughty

Indonesian police rounded up kids with Mohawk hair styles, deemed insulting to Islamic tradition, and shaved the kid’s heads.

Think of the cops giving Rambo a “bath” in a jail cell with fire hoses.

When I was in the army my buddy Phil showed me a news clipping where it was argued that tattoos hadn’t been demonstrated to be dangerous to one’s health, but the cop harrassing guys with tattoos concluded, “They’re dirty!”

What could be more preposterous than kleptocrats yapping about liberty?

To my eye even Libertarians have a piss poor concept of it. And I don’t trust my “fellow” anarchists one inch either.

New light substance

I can see at a glance that this extends the designs of Bucky Fuller and Joe Clinton.

Joe once told me that he’d designed something for NASA that he made a model of, ran to Bucky, opened the containing cylinder (like one of those jump out in your face toys) and his invention sprang and spread, floating to Bucky’s office floor like an airfoil. Bucky reached into his file cabinet, looked in a section of stuff from decades before this story’s decades ago, and out of a folder jumped: the same thing!

Nasa wanted to pack something into a rocket tube that would then spread out, flowering as a giant antenna.

I wanna promote these individually as posts, deleting them here: no hurry.ƒ

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
