Information Ambiguous

I quarrel with contemporary usage of the word information where information is used interchangeably with data. Information is the set; data is a subset.

Metadata, metainformation, macroinformation: all are subsets of information.

We need as many words for information as the Eskimo have words for snow.

In the meantime, temporarily I trust, I too use the word information ambiguously: as the set and as a subset: the subset being normal meanings of information: content, meaning …

My theory of Macroinformation should help extricate us from the dilemma: first, by emphasizing the subsets.

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
