Re: Institution: Anstitution?
Derive it thusly:
Individual creatures can live without institutions. Institutions develop in groups. Large groups, the super-zoo, cannot maintain its overpopulated rapacity without institutions.
One crucial function of an institution is to anesthetize the population’s critical faculties: Their schools repress; our schools enlighten. Their church represses; our church knows the truth. Their government … ; our government …
The best I can tell, we get the precious word “kleptocracy” from Jared Diamond. Not all coinages are so just, the exact word. But we need coinages anyway. So pk coins “anstitution”: the basic perception (descended directly from Ivan Illich), being that human institutions are seldom what they claim. One can find examples of justice from a [link to be added] Justice Department, but far more examples of injustice.
Would institutions be less illusion-raddled in a non-kleptocratic society? It’s hard to tell: we drop napalm on every such we can find, then send them missionaries. (Once upon a time “missionaries” were sacred, represented religious views; now they’re more commonly secular missionaries, embassadors for political orders. The church of democracy, the church of capitalism, the church of America … have taken over from any church of Jehovah, or Christ, or the Prophet.
