Institutional Climate

Contemporary kleptocracies compel their young to attend school. The claimed purpose is to promote “education”; but tests show the obvious: adults read poorly, few of the young read at all. I’ve been shouting real reasons for compulsory attendance for institutional services, following Ivan Illich, Bucky Fuller, and others since the 1960s, especially since founding FLEX in 1970, but here’s a succinct reason I don’t remember emphasizing:

Attendance at school not only subverts the power of the family, but it acclimatizes all of us to institutionalized living! Might as well get used to it early. We’re born in institutions, sent to school, to college, to the army … work for IBM or MS … retire to a nursing home (where Third Worlders can steal our hearing aid!)

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
