pk’s Humor / Personal / Writing / Ideas /
@ K. 2011 09

I was telling my friend Carole about my writing yesterday. I told her I’ve been writing for sixty-three years, most of it comedy (until the last two decades). I told her that the essence of my humor was to take the culture myth’s seriously: and to take them (to pretend to take them)

By golly, that’s right! I don’t think I’d ever said that before, not with quite that baldness. But dig it: for decades the source of my humor for my stories and novels was my (pretense of) taking the Bible literally. Also notice: the rest of my writing takes our secular documents — the Constitution, the Bill of Rights — seriously: and pretends to take them literally!

2011 09 07 Only a few days passed before I found an example of me saying the same thing six years ago: Sociologist Major. So it isn’t a first. But read my fiction (First Week, for example): that blog entry is minor.

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
