First in deschooling, first at FLEX, comes Ivan Illich. Everett Reimer, Paul Goodman … Helen Volkomner are also important, and I, Paul Knatz, the founder, president, CEO … coordinator, am essential, but Illich is the source!
I’ll identify all the trustees shortly, but first: volunteers kept me going. My wife fed me, paid the rent, bought the coffee, but the volunteers got me up in the day time, and accompanied me to my soap boxes.
First: Noreen Connolly!
Noreen, I’ve lost track of you. If you see this please make contact.
Charlie Herr: ditto.
You designed the logo. An issue developed between us that had nothing to do with FLEX or deschooling. I hope you’re OK. I’ve missed you all along.
The top two are principal, Bob too, there were others I’m not even sure of their names any more, all a long time ago.
Other associates I’ll name as the spirit moves. But understand: Noreen put in long weeks, every week, for years! And got paid not one penny! A doughnut maybe, a cup of coffee, a glass of water.
Of course I’ve been doing it — and getting kicked in the teeth — for forty-odd years! It hasn’t earned, it sure has cost.
