Sugar is Toxic

Sugar Should Be Regulated As Toxin, Researchers Say

A spoonful of sugar might make the medicine go down. But it also makes blood pressure and cholesterol go up, along with your risk for liver failure, obesity, heart disease and diabetes.
Sugar and other sweeteners are, in fact, so toxic to the human body that they should be regulated as strictly as alcohol by governments worldwide, according to a commentary in the current issue of the journal Nature by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
The researchers propose regulations such as taxing all foods and drinks that include added sugar, banning sales in or near schools and placing age limits on purchases.

I expand from quoting the above at my monthly news bulletin. Note that I’ve been trying to publicize this news since 1970 or so.
Specifically, visiting Ivan Illich and Illich’s CIDOC, meeting Denis Detzel there, having been invited by Denis, me being the founder of NY’s Free Leaerning Exchange, Inc. and Denis being the founder of Evanston’s Learning Exchange, Denis having spoken up first, me being the first to pass around printed invitations, and me being the one who expanded Illich’s learning networks into an internet concept, cybernetic, universally coordinated, I attended Ivan’s seminars too. And Ivan was vilifying “sugar” because of the hacienda system of industrial scale sugar agriculture. I tried to point out that the NYT had linked consumption of sugar with a laundry list of major diseases. Illich didn’t absorb what i was implying, he pressed on with his condemnation of production and its social costs, its responsibility for present kleptocracy. Yes, yes, amen, but also … and worse

Similarly I tried to promote news about human impact on the environment, global warming, etc. since 1968, ’69. My students, my colleagues, in the ’60s “deliberately” didn’t hear me, didn’t understand, pretended not to understand, diverted attention away from these statements, secular hypocrites, kleptocrats dedicated to self-destruction, violating all their most sacred principles, to sabotage their own survival. We’d rather have a bonus today, abetting God’s crucifixion, than have living children and grandchildren tomorrow.

Because the cheaters seem to be getting away with their kleptocracy among the cheated, we imagine that we’re getting away with it with God. Sure: as long as the interrupters won’t let God speak: but what about when he does speak? anyway!?

What’s really pathetic is when even Ivan Illich, one of the greatest geniuses of the Twentieth Century, one of the greatest writers, one of the greatest saints ever, doesn’t follow what’s being shown him. Politically, he was dead right; medically, he was preoccupied, blind.

2012 02 09 But watch out: fake sugar is worse: “After taking into account pre-existing conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, the researchers found that people who drank diet soft drinks daily were 43 percent more likely to have had a stroke or heart attack, or died of heart disease, than those who did not drink diet soda.”

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
