Obverse Reverse

If you have a head, then you also have a tail.
The reverse is true too: if you have a tail, then you also have a head. Unless you’ve been chopped in two, are on your way out. That’s a symmetry that can’t be violated for long.

If you have a god, then you also have a devil: a complement god, an anti-god, an opposite god.
If you’re an institution, you have a purpose: and an anti purpose. If you’re a church, you’re there to pass messages from god: and also you are there to block messages from god, to punish the messenger, if you and yours don’t like the new message.

If you work in the mail room at the White House, you’re there to sort the mail. Put everything in favor of murdering Ossama bin Laden in this pile, everything cautionary in that pile: and loose everything sensible, all one letter in 10,000, into the circular file on the floor. Don’t admit, not under torture, that there every was such a letter.

This relates to stuff I’ve written and posted online for decades, when my new Mac assimilates my old data I’ll make links, redistribute. string a scrapbook:

Teachers have a purpose, to pass on yesterday’s learning. Teachers also have a reverse purpose: to block new learning. Don’t let the public hear about Darwin till a few generations weaken their resistance to science, sense, truth. Don’t let the public buy the revolutionary book until the revolution is half-won. Then, scream at your father, while sanctifying, just as irrationally, your grandfather.

Sentience & Semiotics

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
