It’s been rainy in England. Wimbledon tennis matches have been rained out, rescheduled. Normally the fortnight of tennis takes the middle Sunday off as a day of rest. This year they’re playing, trying to catch up. I figured NBC coverage would be on this afternoon. Still, there was a change some would be on live, that is, this morning. So I turned on Catherine’s TV on a Sunday morning for the first time in … decades. Ah, no. Of course. Sunday services: probably on every major channel. Some preacher talking about God? No, silly; Newt Gingrich talking about US and Iraq: God and Satan: this bicentennial’s god, this couple of years’ devil.
Jews observe Saturday morning: the seventh day, as the weekly anniversary of God resting after Creation. TV has Saturday Sabbath services too: cartoons. The upright primate mammal vs. the dragons: snakes, monsters … generally reptilian.
When did I write that? early 2000s probably, late ’90s.
