2006 10 10 Once humans lived for their own purposes. Then we were told we lived for God’s purpose. Now we’re manipulated to suit the purposes of other humans. I tried to shove us toward where we could once again live for our own purposes: as independent groups or individuals: our choice.
Once upon a time we did what came naturally. We searched for food. We had an eye out for enemies. Often enough we found some food. Rain, cold … could intrude another purpose: and we were free to address it. Papa, while the family put up with him, could say, “Let’s look on the other side of the valley.” If the family was interested in staying together, they could follow papa. Though actually, any body could try saying what papa had said, including baby sister. The formation of the group was voluntary as well as natural.

Now we’re born into a society that forbids foraging: everything is private, or owned by the government. This group can’t cross the river — no individual in it; it’s against the law. Someone other than papa and mama punish you if don’t go to this church; or do go to that church. Then they shove you into a classroom where you have to study algebra: at their convenience, not yours.
Why? Did you say you wanted to study algebra? Did your papa or mama? Can anyone demonstrate, fairly, without magic, that algebra will shelter you, help you find food, keep you warm?
Only by statistical appeals to your probably wanting to work for some company which probably requires algebra.
You’re living for the purposes of whoever wants you to learn algebra: and they don’t even know you. There’s no guarantee that they’ll give you the job if you do want it.

School’s Purpose

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
