God As Meta-Catch-All

God the Father; God the Creator; God as Boss-God of all the gods …

To my mind God is the popular term for meta-: something orthogonal to the ordinary. Normally you build left and right, front and back. Add a dimension, and you’re building orthogonally: UP. You’re building toward “god.”

Thus: meta-judge, meta-mother, meta-father, meta-inventor, meta-artist … Meta-Catch-All.

You and I can create something: a flint hand ax, a pile of stones … We figure everything was created, so we need to posit a super-creator: God.

But there’s lots of us. We don’t all come from the same place. When we bump into each other we run into other explanations: other gods. Eventually one group argues, Yeah, but our god is the boss god, the only REAL god … If they’re still saying it while others are drawing and quartering them, then the torture-draw-quarterers are impressed. Wow, they really mean it. This god is powerful!

All of this has nothing whatever to do with whether or not there really is such a God. There could be a god and nobody noticed. There could be a jillion gods and only a hundred got noticed.

There could be no gods; but there can not be no meta-s. Two dimensions is not the end of it. Three dimensions is not the end of it.

This could go in a million directions. In time, if I live, and can still work, I’ll take it into at least a few more.

One thing, right away: if the Jews’ one God is the meta-Father, where’s the meta-Mother?

Well, Woman lost that round. But she had won others before. In fact, clearly, she must have won others, or at least another, so strongly that a huge victory had to be plotted against her. And I don’t doubt she’ll win others in the future: if we have a future. Looks like she’s winning a lot of skirmishes right now: some of them so silly (but wonderful anyway, take Kill Bill for example).

god is one? Homo sapiens sapiens can’t possibly know what that means: not Newton, not Shakespeare … not pk.

But I’ll be back for a bunch of monisms that we CAN imagine.

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
