Jesup 1997, Nicknames

At Jesup I volunteered to help at the “library”. I tried to keep the novels in alphabetical order by author’s surname, I tried adding labels to sections for Science Fiction, for Non-Fiction, for Reference …

I soon stopped, sorry I’d done anything. Prior to some inspection, all my labels were removed. The librarians who were assigned to the library, paid to be there (all of twenty cents an hour!), stopped doing their jobs as soon as they saw me trying to help. No, no, no. Never interfere with your enemy when your enemy is in the midst of defeating himself (said Nietzsche). The sooner this society dies, the sooner might some viable society emerge; or, the no good species will be gone: good riddance.

I liked one articulate black guy who seemed to be in charge. Actually, I don’t think anyone was in charge: that was just his self-important, no-self-doubts style. Additional acquaintance convinced me that he wasn’t a tenth as intelligent as he at first appeared, and he too become someone I avoided: pansy faggot mama’s boy.

There was an Hispanic assistant who hung around there. His English wasn’t good; my Spanish is near nil. I don’t think I ever conversed with him. But he overheard me say things to others who did, or were supposed to, speak English. And this fellow began hailing me from assorted distances:

“”: and he’d applaud!

“pk!!” and he’d applaud!

And variations: very nice.

About pk

Seems to me that some modicum of honesty is requisite to intelligence. If we look in the mirror and see not kleptocrats but Christians, we’re still in the same old trouble.
