The Passion occurred (according to the stories) under Roman law: the Roman Empire supervising Jewish law in Jerusalem. Jesus was judged by a Roman, Pontius Pilate.
The story has it that someday Pilate and Tiberius will be judged by God. The story has it that God will be right, infallibly. The story assumes that we’ll all see that the story and all its details are right: God will judge Pilate and we will judge Pilate and we will judge God all at the same time, and we’ll all be, permanently and eternally right.
But in the meantime, the only visible judge is Pilate, and Tiberius, and the pope, and the Jesuits.
Jesus may judge, Jasus may forgive, but so far, it’s all speculation, a script, scripted by Jews and Christians; not the most reliable bunch.
And Americans! (Need I say more?)
Boy, do I want God to judge, and to be right, and Jesus. But in the meantime, it’s a script, a script with men as its author, not God, not Jesus.
And what happens if we all go extinct and we’re dead as a doornail, and there’s been no judgment, no God, no Jesus? No facts, no history, no authority; just promises? empty scripts?
